Hundreds of protestors in Dublin vented their anger against the Israeli government Saturday, as Irish-owned aid ship the Rachel Corrie was boarded by Israeli forces before it reached Gaza.

Demonstrators hailed those on board the ship as heroes, along with people who took part in a flotilla earlier in the week which was intercepted by Israel with the loss of nine lives.

Organizers of the Irish march said up to several thousand people had taken part, but police put the figure in the hundreds.

If we want gossip and personalities, Northern, it's easy enough to find. You are pathetic. This craft was on it's way to Gaza, not Israel. They have no legal right to imped it.

There they go again. Wont they let these people get the aid they need. This is starting to get so stupid.

The European Union will present in the coming days a proposal for lifting the Israeli blockade of Gaza, following a deadly Israeli raid earlier in the week on aid ships bound for the Palestinian territory, Spanish Foreign Minister Miguel Angel Moratinos said on Saturday.

Moratinos added that he had spoken with the bloc's foreign affairs chief, Catherine Ashton, on the issue.

"The European Union can play a leading role in this situation," he also said.

Spain had condemned the Israeli action and summoned the Jewish State's ambassador to Madrid for an explanation.

Thousands of Israelis, both Jewish and Arab, protested in Tel Aviv on Saturday against the occupation of Palestinian territories, marking the 43rd anniversary of the Jewish State’s conquests in the 1967 Six-Day War.

The march, organized by the Peace Now movement and a number of left wing and far-left groups, passed off peacefully. An AFP journalist estimated the number of demonstrators at around 5000.

The protesters denounced what they called "a government that is sinking Israel instead of navigating towards peace," in a reference to Monday's deadly assault on a Gaza Strip aid flotilla that left nine Turkish activists.

I have little love for the military state of Israel. But I have to say this whole thing looks like political theater on both sides to me.

I think too many on the left who support the people starving and dying in gaza and palestine forget that many of those who do work with hamas and similar organizations have very different political agendas and motives than they.

nothing is at it seems in middle eastern politics. There is not 'good' side.

That said, as an american, i dont want one cent of my tax dollars going to israel.

Great points, Sir, I appreciate the reminder. It just seems to me that liberty must start somewhere and people deserve the chance to vote for the wrong person. How else do some learn (myself included) except through mistakes?

When Somalis board ships in international waters, they call it piracy. The Israelis can do as they please to anybody, anywhere. Even when they kill it's not murder, it's 'self-defence'. Did they learn from Goebbels or could he have learned from them? The world - at least the ordinary people of the world - sees through their propaganda!

Israel didn't intend to just slap wrists and deport everyone last Monday. They boarded an unarmed civilian humanitarian aid vessel at night with an armed commando unit. One doesn’t do that if the intention is to discuss matters peacefully. It is clear that after a week of deliberation, Israeli officials decided again to prove to the world as they said once before after the Dec 2008 - Jan 2009 massacre; that they are capable of acting like a ’lunatic state’ and like mad dogs (their words not mine) in order to instil fear in the Arab world (and now evidently the entire world). You have your wish Israel, I believe you now for sure but fearing you and cowering before you is not the only solution.

As we see today from the MV Rachel Corrie that if you board during the day with some restraint there are no deaths. Your death dear Rachel (March 16, 2003) and the deaths of those like you may not be entirely for nothing if we can help it. Get radical people! And free Palestine. Silence makes us complicit. The way to end terrorism permanently is NOT to oppress people and make enemies of them.

Thanks Cheryl.

Not Silent. Speak the Truth.

United Nations' decisions are seldom acted upon without the active or tacit support of the USA, which is seldom present when the UN is attempting to discipline Israel.

All

I suspect this boarding will result in fewer deaths and wounds.

I am haunted by the story of Rachel Corrie and wonder if her parents suit for wrongful death is going any where? I also wonder how many of the international contributions are being taken to Gaza by Israel?
