same in canada, just lower numbers because of lower population, some meds are needed, there is a great video posted by Marc from google on big pharma worth the watch. And the figures are probably lower, and also adverse reactions prescribed by doctors is millions of people.

This is scary. American doctors have far to much respect, money, and deference granted to them. Question everything medical professionals tell you.

I meant the figures in the Big Pharma google video, link above, that the numbers are probably low, quite a bit, many don't get reported, I;m one of them.

Jennifer when u start questiion or research your meds and illness yourself, especially on the web, u usually find out more than your doctor does, gp'S anyway and their egos aer too big and they don;t like to discuss it, or listen, because often you may know more than them. I had these with nurmerous doctors plus knowing abut my own illnesses better than they did, most didn.t, and they got insulted even thou I was not rude. I had 1 doctor who took out my right ovarie after an etopic pregancy ruptured, I near died, losts alot of blood, they could get it all out, never told me if they gave me a transfusion (I had Hep C now and this was years prior to bood being tested, there are others ways in hosptial to get it), any way this is what he surgeon told me quote "I DIDN'T GOT TO SCHOOL FOR 7 YEARS TO HAVE TO EXPLAIN TO YOU WHAT I DID TO YOU IN LAYMJANS TERMS" AND WALKED OUT THE DOOR. MY TUBES WERE SUCH A MESS i NEED ED TO HAVE THEM BURNED SO COULDN'T GET PREGNANT AGAIN, AFTER SURGERY MY GENEGOLOGIST TOLD ME MY RIGHT OVARIES WAS STILL THERE, THEY HAD NOT TAKEN IT OUT, BUT THE AMOUTN OF STIITCHING, ADN DAMAGE DONE, WAS EXTREME. Theres' more on profile, I can't type mcuh right now.l

We need doctors that work on a fairly equal basis for people that do their homework, now it[s most, do quick surgeryt on to the next, and GP'S write scripts and don't want to talk about much else, too much time, and most don't know that much about pharacheuticals or drug interations, I've had several I[ve told you can't give those together, adn they all got really mad even though I had the proof. later, hugs and love

DR .MERCOLA'S COMMENT:Folks, this is what they call a "Landmark Article". Only several ones like this are published every year. One of the major reasons it is so huge as that it is published in JAMA which is the largest and one of the most respected medical journals in the entire world. I did find it most curious that the best wire service in the world, Reuter's, did not pick up this article. I have no idea why they let it slip by.

I would encourage you to bookmark this article and review it several times so you can use the statistics to counter the arguments of your friends and relatives who are so enthralled with the traditional medical paradigm. These statistics prove very clearly that the system is just not working. It is broken and is in desperate need of repair.

I was previously fond of saying that drugs are the fourth leading cause of death in this country. However, this article makes it quite clear that the more powerful number is that doctors are the third leading cause of death in this country killing nearly a quarter million people a year. The only more common causes are cancer and heart disease.

This statistic is likely to be seriously underestimated as much of the coding only describes the cause of organ failure and does not address iatrogenic causes at all.

Japan seems to have benefited from recognizing that technology is wonderful, but just because you diagnose something with it, one should not be committed to undergoing treatment in the traditional paradigm. Their health statistics reflect this aspect of their philosophy as much of their treatment is not treatment at all, but loving care rendered in the home.

Care, not treatment, is the answer. Drugs, surgery and hospitals are rarely the answer to chronic health problems. Facilitating the God-given healing capacity that all of us have is the key. Improving the diet, exercise, and lifestyle are basic.

Effective interventions for the underlying emotional and spiritual wounding behind most chronic illness are also important clues to maximizing health and reducing disease.

Doctors are the third leading cause, but add in other medical mistakes, and the whole entire medical system put together adds up to the #1 cause...not just #3!

Here's some more info we started up in this thread: http://www.care2.com/c2c/groups/disc.html?gpp=7403&pst=489088&archival=

My opinion? The whole thing is crazy. They have poisonous drugs and deadly ways. How do they expect to heal? They work through arrogance, brainwashing, financial power and playing upon people's fears.

It's not so much the doctors...It's the whole system. Many doctors are very well intended, but they're trained in so many ways that are so contrary to the whole process of healing that good intentions don't matter a bit.

We have to look to what we believe of the healing process. As for me, I do not go to medical doctors when I have a need for healing. I focus on health, not disease, and so I turn to natural health ways. About the only things I would go to them for would be if I needed a cast or some stitches...If I were in a car wreck, for instance, and needed emergency care in order to save my life. Other than that, I'll just fine on my own!

I think we all owe it to ourselves to learn as much about natural healing as we possibly can. Maybe you might not want to take it to the extreme that I have, but if there's anyway ever to avoid even one trip to the doctor, you're that much further away from being a part of the statistics that are presented to us in this article here!

Just my opinion...well, actually no! It's not just my opinion! It's fact!

This article in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) is the best article I have ever seen written in the published literature documenting the tragedy of the traditional medical paradigm. The author is Dr. Barbara Starfield of the Johns Hopkins School of Hygiene and Public Health and she desribes how the US health care system may contribute to poor health. What does the word iatrogenic mean? This term is defined as induced in a patient by a physician's activity, manner, or therapy. Used especially of a complication of treatment

Having just watched my Mother's demise I can believe it.She refused to take the natural remedy I had gotten for her even though her GP said take Floressence independent of my advice to do so, the oncologists are dead against it but the GP's are seeing the difference in longevity with those who take Floressence orEssiac or Medicine Man Tea. Unfortunately for my mother my sister is the oncologists personal assistant and mom is no longer with us.

Actually Blue B, I agree with u on most points (my love to u again Litha & support as small as it may be), but u tell that to someone with HIV/AIIDS, Cancer, or ME/CFS the later for severe cronic cases and I disagree. Allopolligic medicine does have it place, big pharma shoud not, there should be doctors trained in both fields. I only know of one here that has a partener that is homopath or naturopath u have to see 3 times befoe she wlll she u (which I can;t even make it to even if I found the $) , insurance doesnt pay, governement dosen't pay, & Iv eonly been able to be stablized long ehough to get out of here 3 times in over a year. Oh yes a prior supposed Immune Specialist for HIV/AIDS, but didn't know a thing about CFS/ME OR FM, did have a partner, naturpath I think, never referred to once. Instead my neurological illnesses where declared phsychiatrict even with Alberta Court ruling in 1998 that it wasn';t and in 2004 that it is a neruological/immune illness, the pages of drugs, often combined together, the the extreme side effects I had, which evently brain & body damaged me are so very lenthghy, let alone the side effects, many exreteme even before the permanent damage. They don;t take drug historys, or med historys down properply, most dont CARE, its and in an out system now what was a 2 week stay for serious operations is now 2 days. Where for a nessecery operation (many weren't just done for more $ for the doctor, like Wia-Ping documentary on my profile and in the news again, there are thousands with NO REPROCUSTIONS FOR THEM.

I looked into the Gerson Institute some years after getting CFS.ME.FM but it was in Mexico and couldn't afford to go. They have now put their diet on their web site, in my state I physcially can't do it, even thou I have a big juicer my arms arn;t strong enough, and u have to be really committed when by yourself and no support. thanks for the link, will have to write that down, managed to do one a while back here on c2nn. Most of this I know but I backslide, and I am a vegitarian already but not getting enough fresh vegegables.

Also I took Kutapression shots for 6 months and had some improvement for near 2 years, I coulodn;t afford to keep having it shipped up from the USA or a new doctor to do it, Also Immuvore, helped, these are autoimmuine helpers, and they do help, some with HIV use them, there is also Amplegien that has actually cured some people with CFS/ME they are using it on Hep C, which I have as well (and not milk thistle did not help for some reason seamed to irratate it more), they have new drugs interferons mixed with others and people with Hep C some are being cured, I know of 2 on c2. There's a line, you have to be informed, so does your doctor and you need a doctor that doesn;t consider themsevles on a pedalstal (s) and talk to you one to one, it is YOUR BODY DO YOUR RESEARCH, AND RESEARCH YOUR DOCTOR IF YOU CAN WHERE U LIVE, THEM HIDE THEM HERE.

That's it for now I'm not gettingall messages in my inbox, sorta on and off, seems a common problem.

Sunshine, the "care" quote is from Dr. Mercola's comments on the article ...

I'm using acupncture and massage therapy rather than western medicine.

Cheryl Sunshine Benson (524)

yes I was aware of that. I tried acupuncture and it barely did anything (thats shortly after I got cfs/me/fm, and I had to pay it wasnt covered, so I gave up, that was for CFS/ME/FM, as for massage therapy they've refused to even do the scans needed for the musle/ligament damage whole body, so it doesnt exist on my files, and hve to do that before starting a program at the movmement center here (1 on the hospitals involved) or else u can do more damage, my bones are defforming now. They can be a nasty crew who protect each other, and life is cheap. I'm sure there are some good ones out there, I know there is, getting to them and them not being scared when ur obviously a malpractice case, they back off.

I think this article is too kind. What about Failure to treat due to mis-diagnosis? The medical industry needs to be reeled in fast, and big pharma along with it.

If we keep going the way we are, eventually, we will all have a "disease" and may be forced to take "drugs" to "heal" (aka: cover up) our "illness." (Too bad is was only a corn....)
