Depleted uranium (DU) has been found in the urine of Gulf War vets as long as 20 years after exposure. A highly sensitive test has been developed which can detect DU even when previous screening has proven negative. This test may assist with unresolved he

Dear Old Sunshine Ray,

I was sure you would pick this one up -- it may actually be removed from the Target.News site because it is not factual and unlike bloggers and you, they seem to actually care about the facts. Dr Parrish tested former employees of a smelter in Colonie, NY; they were exposed to DU and other heavy metals on a daily basis for years. The smelter was shut down by the NY State Supreme Court in 1984

http://www.fusrapcolonie.com/back/

"The original Colonie FUSRAP Site, located at 1130 Central Avenue in the Town of Colonie, consisted of 11.2 acres and 56 vicinity properties. The 11.2-acre site was owned and operated by National Lead Industries from 1937 to 1984. An industrial facility on the site was used for electroplating and manufacturing various components from uranium and thorium. Properties in vicinity of the site were contaminated through plant smokestack releases into the air. Contaminated casting sand and debris were disposed of in the former Patroon Lake area on the site. Through these and other practices on-site, radioactive, and chemical contaminants entered the environment - mainly uranium, thorium, and lead. The New York State Supreme Court shut down the National Lead plant in 1984."

These former workers would have been much more heavily exposed than any soldier - Dr Parrish, in fact, using the same methodology, has not found DU in soldiers from the Gulf War and he has examined several dozen, perhaps hundreds.

Roger

Roger shows up on just about every Depeleted Urainaim (The waste material left over from this enrichment process is composed primarily of uranium-238 and is called Depleted Uranium or DU.) submission no matter who submits it because he has a personal grudge against Moret and Rokke who he said has slandered him., he also has a yahoo group for support (don't know if he still does), I have't checked out how many are members and have been convinced, I hope none. . On one of my submissions at least, I went toe to toe with him and proved him wrong on each of his comments which I am not going to keep doing. He his entitled to his opnion, but this is a personal grudge and you persistently included off comments about my name, which I am not tolerating anymore.

here are some links one to a video by a serviceman who has been to Iraq and I am trying to find mine, there are a few, as I did a fair amount of research. As myself and LItha have said Roger, if you don't think DU is harmful, go play in some just don't convince anyone to go with you.

Roger has even stated that it doesn't travel in the 'air' it's too heavy, they have found it as far as Japan from the winds from Iraq (posted on the article link above I think it's that one) and what does that say about our oceans as well as future health, deformed children, and troops coming back ill or not long after.

And regarding your government propoganda link you left above this time Roger which wasted more of my precious time, this copied from it says it all "Colonie Site was managed by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE)." What else would one expect from the US government and regarding tests. They don't want to take any responsbility for what they have done and continue to do.

Roger, on any submissions regarding DU, why don't you write to the editor or author and give what you consider to be facts and your opinion, and your personal vendentta, including News Target, the response especially from News Target may be profound for you, if you get one.

Cheryl,

You would not believe a fact if it were a two by four that was hitting you in the head. You clearly have a huge axe to grind and tolerate nothing getting in its way. Yes, I do follow the leads I get in Depleted Uranium Google Alert because people like you are going to get good people killed. DU has never harmed anyone who was not in or nearby a target tank. That is a fact. It is not propaganda. The internet is full of the propaganda. Saddam Hussein started it and well meaning, but easily duped peace activists have kept a constant drumbeat going. DU brought a lot of American and UK tank crews home safely from what otherwise would have been a pretty tense engagement with thousands of Saddam's tanks. Saddam did not like that his tanks were easily destroyed and Saddam did not like those pesky UN Sanctions that ended the Gulf War, so he invented the mythology of DU. You don't like US information, most of what I find and post is international, UN and IAEA and I never supported Bush so it is not politics with me, it is fact and science versus the witch hunters. Unfortunately, you and large numbers of internet people are witch hunters.

The UNEP report on Bosnia-Herzegovina is very good - it is the last of three field reports from the Balkans and it has some very informative pictures as well - it is at

Depleted Uranium in Bosnia and Herzegovina - Postconflict Assessment
300 pg detailed UN Environmental Programme Report

This statement that you made up above is totally bogus -
Roger has even stated that it doesn't travel in the 'air' it's too heavy, they have found it as far as Japan from the winds from Iraq (posted on the article link above I think it's that one) and what does that say about our oceans as well as future health, deformed children, and troops coming back ill or not long after.

They have never found DU anywhere beyond a 100 meters from the targeted tank. The claims about deformed children are also bogus. Did you know that some of the pictures come from medical texts and others have been traced to a Czarist era museum's specimen jars in St Petersburg? You just believe whatever YouTube shovels out and you clearly have no independent scientific knowledge. I hope you still are getting the comments since you made so many of them. Write me - DUStorydashowneratyahoogroupsdotcom

PS -- what exactly did you go "toe to toe" with me - if anything, you posted and I never read your comments. I only came here today because I was looking for something else and I decided to read some of the messages. I have very poor internet connection at home (it has not been working at all the last few days) and I mainly like to read and reply to mail in an off-line mode. The Yahoo Group, by the way, was not set up for support, but to inform. I have obtained documents using the Freedom of Information Act that no one else has - I am a persistent SOB who digs and digs and digs - too bad that you really are not willing to go "toe-to-toe" as you claim because I have a lot of facts to support everything that I post. Do you?

Mary,

The term depleted uranium means that this is extremely pure Uranium 238 and that it is depleted of fissionable Uranium 235. Natural Uranium is dominantly U238 with U234 and U235. U235 is required for nuclear power plant fuel. U238 can be used to fuel modern reactors as well, so it is not really "waste". The people who go around misleading you and others with their claims that DU is "not so depleted uranium" because it is radioactive are merely blowing smoke to intentionally confuse you. All isotopes of Uranium are radioactive, so are many of the isotopes of Uranium's decay daughter products. That is the nature of a radioactive mineral element. Uranium keeps the core of the Earth molten so that we can live on it. It is also suspected by scientists of having been the energy source that enable life to be born out of the primordial soup. It is not inherently bad and it is very weakly radioactive. The longer the half-life, the less radioactive activity. An extremely active radioisotope, Polonium 210 was used to kill a former KGB agent in London. Polonium 210 has a half-life of 138 days and is extremely active. The Wiki article on Polonium says "A milligram of 210Po emits about as many alpha particles per second as 4.5 grams of 226Ra". That miligram will fill the room with radioactive particles in a matter of hours. Uranium 238 on the other hand mainly just sits there, oxidizes and gets old. Half of what was around when the Earth was formed is still here and half of that will still be here 4.5 billion years from now. That is probably far longer than the Sun will sustain life on our planet.
