My apologies that this news will take you to a group thread as there is no official online news released as of yet. I'm not sure whether there is going to be one anyway. But if they do, I'll update it both here and in the thread. I hope nobody minds it. Thank you.

Good to read the poor creature is in better health but frustrating that someone would use the Qur'an to justify such cruelty. Keep fighting the good fight, Nick. You know you've got my support, whatever it may be worth.

Thankyou Nick for putting this important case in the news. It's heart breaking. Thank goodness Joy can be saved although her life will never be the same again will it. May Godbless this little soul and hopefully, if there is to be any justice, one day her tormentors will indeed be punished....

It is no wonder I dislike most human beings so much. How revolting and sick to do this to an innocent being.

I feel physically ill.

i dont understand how anyone, no matter what race, religion or country ,could inflict such cruelty on any animal...my heart is saddened by this horrific torture to such a beautiful animal...i'm in tears, i cry for two reasons : one - that such a loyal trusting companion, to any man, has suffered at the hands of man, and two - that the human race uses excuses to justify their actions...thankyou for informing us of joy and godbless her little soul through her struggle to recovery..

It is still difficult for me to face what happens to the innocent, but I am getting stronger all the time, so I can help more. I will light a candle as well for this precious animal.

Thanks for bringing this to my attention, Nick. It presents a whole new phase to activism. That of dealing with ignorance in religion!

I myself have had sobering communications with the Anglican Church here in Canada who "bless" community pets once a year in a non-Sunday service but never venture anywhere near the subject of horrific farm animal abuses every minute of every day!

It's amazes me how our perception of animals needs to change on so many levels of society and how religion in so many parts of the world does NOTHING in their defense.

Religious leaders need to be yanked forward in their teaching of peace and love on Earth!

What horrible abuse. Would these people eagerly kill or maime every dog they come in contact with because they think their religion supports it? This belief needs to be changed. In America there are the old expressions, "a dirty dog," "son of a bitch," and "treated like a dog" (or, "I wouldn't treat a dog like that"). All suggesting that a dog is a very lowly and wretched animal. Dogs and all animals should be treated with respect, and if they are not, it is the human being who is low and wretched. We are supposedly the ones who are the great thinkers.

Yes Jeff. There has also been a Christian Charismatic Meeting held every Friday near my area in someones home where there were Bible reading, praise & worship, singing, testimonials and other Christian activities. I observed this for some time. I think after a couple of months or so, I approaced them and gave them some free booklets, leaflets, posters DVD's etc., that exposes animal suffering in our community and what the Christian community can do for all animals in general by seriously educating and firmly creating awareness to others. But guess what happened? The meeting was no longer held there ever since that day...

That is very sad to hear Nick. To be a christian is to care! A true christian will love and care for all Gods creations, to say they are christian and then to take no action on such matters as animal abuse, is being a total hippocrate in my view!!.....

Dear Nick, thanks for letting me know about Joy. It hurts to see such cruelty happening to poor defenseless creatures who never did anyone any harm. Ny heart goes out to Joy. The poor doggie. I hope it will learn to trust and love (in return) again. All in all, it is good to know that he is now in good hands and TLC is in abundance.

to just imagine that such cruelty can be inflicted on another creature in pure ignorance of religion and yet do it in the name of religion.. it's SHAMEFUL!!! no faith endorses cruelty in any form and to ANY creature and islam is no exception. these are terrible times where ppl use G-d and religion to justify horrific acts..

educate, educate, educate.. then perhaps several generations down the road things may be better.. perhaps..

You are right Amin, "Educate... for generations"! Unfortunately you are not entirely correct about, "no faith endorses cruelty". Many religious rituals , even in mainstream religions, involve outrageous cruelty to animals. There is for example the Jewish practice of kapparot, a ritual where individuals swing a chicken (a white one, to symbolize purity) over their heads three times while pronouncing that their sins are to be assigned to the animal! Then the chicken is slaughter. Although it is condemned by many rabbis, it still takes place today.

And as I aluded in my earlier comment, many religions stand by silently as billions of innocent animals are slaughtered for us to eat... kept and killed in the most atrocious of conditions!

My point here is simply this: by their actions or their silence, religions and the people who ascribe to them condone massive cruelty to animals every minute of every day... throughout the world! And this sad story is another pitiful example of how G-d's message of love AND RESPECT FOR HIS KINGDOM is NOT getting through! And religion is NOT HELPING!

EDUCATE! DEMAND COMPASSIONATE LIVING COURSES THROUGHOUT ALL LEVELS OF OUR SCHOOL SYSTEMS AND TEACH YOUR CHILDREN WELL.

The abuse is heartbreaking. I am so glad he has been adopted. I hope his broken spirit can be repaired, too. When will people learn to respect their animal companions? This type of cruelty seems to be increasing instead of decreasing. People must be taught how to treat animals with gentleness, respect and love from cariing respectful parents. When this isn't happening at home, where will they learn it? It's unrealistic to think every child will learn this all over the world. So every person who does love and respect animals must consider him or herself a role model to children in how they treat animals. Children watch us all the time. Let's put our beliefs into our actions and our behavior. Let the world "see" we are what we believe!

What a very sad abuse case. Most dogs do recover from this type of trauma though. Dogs are very resilient animals. Allot of tinder loving care in a good home and he'll be OK.
