Thanks for posting. I can't believe that Canada's government would act like this. It sounds like something the US gov't would do. That's scary.
I hope the crew is alright.

Gee-wiz........the Canadian goverment needs a good smack upside the head. 1) The seals are not theirs to kill. 2) It sounds like they're operating outside their jusrisdiction.

This is an act of war,” said Captain Paul Watson. “The Canadian government has just sent an armed boarding party onto a Dutch registered yacht in international waters and has seized the ship. Considering that the mission of the Farley Mowat was to document evidence of cruelty by sealers to support a European initiative to ban seal products, I can predict that the Europeans will not be very pleased with this move and most likely this move by Loyola Hearn will guarantee that this bill is passed. In other words the Minister of Fisheries and Oceans has just handed us the victory that we were looking for.”

Thank you to Captain Watson and all those on your ships! I pray for the safety of everyone aboard The Farley Mowat. The horrific slaughter of these innocent seals must be stopped! I regret that I am not able to be with Captain Watson and the Sea Shepherd in person to aid in their noble cause.
Noted with thanks, Tony.

Contact ALL companies that sell Canadian products and tell them you will NOT give them money and why you will not give them money.

Then contact ALL Canadian companies that send stuff abroad and tell them that because of the sealers and because of their government you will not give them money.

Explain it, but keep it short and make sure they understand they are losing $$$$$$ since that's the quickest way to get a point across to most people.

If anyone wants to start a list of Canadian companies and their distributors that would be great, I would be I'm swamped as it is, but I will find time to call/write/email them if a list is generated.

Thank you Tony & All who love Seals. Yes, Sun' alerted us at Mermaidseas that they have also taken an Aussie Doctor & her partner captive!

Tragic, the loss of Human & Seal lives in this senseless slaughter.
IMHO I agree with those that ponder why the Canadian Gov. does not just fund for these people to be trained & assisted into a healthier happier job, instead of funding these hunts.

Now they have falsely arrested innocent heros documenting the Inhumanity of The BLOODY Seal Murders Atrocity!

Even the U.S.A, banned Candian Seal Fur imports back as far as the 1970s!
Fishermen sell seal pelts mostly to the fashion industry in Norway, Russia and China, as well as blubber for oil. The United States has banned Canadian seal products since 1972.

The Farley Mohat is Dutch Ship that helped save the Canadians & others back in World War II! The Dutch Ship was NOT in Canadian waters when they were boarded by armed men.
Whether the RCMP captures the evidence that Sea Shepherd got on the Seal Slaughters or not, they are not without proof, IFAW also has proof!

Pray for the safety & freedom of everyone from the The Farley Mowat.

This is so outrageously unjust, I need to go calm down & come back later.

Being from Canada I am very upset with what has happened to the Farley Mowat and of course the government won't tell any one where the boat was which I feel is wrong. What does the Government have to hide.... probably a lot. My thoughts and prayers are with the crew of the Farley Mowat.

This is just unbelieveable! This is a violent action that indicates that the Canandian govenment is trying to hide what they are doing. Otherwise it would be an open mission with nothing to hide. In this day and age it is just outrageous that the cruel seal hunt even continues, yet alone a nation willing to start a war over what should be illegal and even daring to do so in international waters. Just unbelieveable. My prayers are for the seals and the safety of the Farley Mowat crew.

It is really bad. They did this to innocent Humane Society International people too, in 2006 and so on..It's an ongoing thing for them to try to falsely detain or arrest innocent people to steal evidence of the inhumane seal slaughters..that they have documented..
So this time they've done it to Sea Shepherd's ship the Farley Mowat, and one of the crew a young female from Cape Town was roughed up by fisheries and thereby injured by them during the I'm sure some of you may there is very good reason to be concerned about the crew..
Tony thank you for news submit and for being such a great friend to the sea-beings..My regards to all Seal Friends and Defenders..who will be in my thoughts and prayers..

I have just checked for news on the ship and the crew, i found out that the Dutch embassy is working on this case! According to Canada the ship has been in Canadian water! The dutch sea shepherd site has no news at all!
Europe should immediately act to end this insanity,

I really hate to say this but the Canadian Officials have not been truthful about this kind of thing before. You know what Hearn said about the Captain was not true. I'm very concerned Hans, but I'm glad to hear the Dutch Embassy is working on it. It's just crazy. Thanks Tony. And also thanks for the blog link. (((HUGS)))

I live in Canada and I even have a hard time getting the member from my riding who is in Ottawa to listen to my concerns now and then. There must be something when you becoming part of the government that allows you to hide information from folks and I find that so wrong.

I do not agree with the seizure nor the seal hunt, but if we want to shed honest light on the situation, we should also be honest. The boat was not seized in international waters as claimed in this article, but in it was seized in the Cabot Strait – the body of water between Cape Breton and Newfoundland. These are internal Canada waters.

Let's stop the hunt. And let's be honest about everything.

Sea Shepherd Crew Update

All 17 of the Sea Shepherd crew of the Farley Mowat were brought into Sydney, Nova Scotia by the Canadian Coast Guard late last night.

Captain Alex Cornelissen and 1st Officer Peter Hammarstedt were detained and charged with approaching a seal hunt without a permit. They appeared in court on the morning of 13th of April. Although not yet confirmed, the Judge is asking $5,000 each for bail.

Amber Paarman of South Africa, Dan Villa, Greg Hager and Merilee Nyland of the United States, Anne Fournier of France, Merryn Redenbach of Australia have protested that they did not voluntarily enter Canada and because they were forced at gunpoint into the country they refused to sign immigration papers to enter. They are being detained by Canada Customs and Immigration. The other eleven crew-members were released and are staging a hunger strike at the court house in solidarity with Captain Cornelissen and 1st Officer Peter Hammarstedt.

Amber Paarman was the only crewmember injured by the Canadian boarding party. She suffered a blow to the side of her head from a Fisheries Officer when she objected to being manhandled by one of the officers.

The Farley Mowat remains in the custody of the Coast Guard along with all the personal property of the crew. All computers and laptops have been seized by the Federal Department of Fisheries. All photos and videos taken of inhumane activities by sealers have been seized by the Canadian Department of Fisheries.

"It is these images of brutal sadistic slaughter on the ice floes that Canada is desperate to keep hidden." Said Captain Paul Watson. "What the Sea Shepherd crew have witnessed over the last two weeks has exposed the lies of Canadian government claims that the seal slaughter is inhumane."

Canadian Minister of Fisheries Loyola Hearn authorized an assault on a Dutch registered vessel in international waters in order to detract from the tragedy his department was responsible for two weeks ago when four sealers drowned while under tow by the Canadian Coast Guard.

In Canada it is illegal to film, photograph or even witness a seal being killed without permission of the Minister of Fisheries.

Loyola Hearn said that the action was taken to protect the safety of the sealers.

Captain Paul Watson, presently en route to Sydney Nova Scotia responded by saying, "The sealers have nothing to fear from our cameras and everything to fear from Canadian government incompetence. So far Canada has been responsible for four deaths while we were simply taking pictures of sealers inhumanely killing seals."

Not that this surprises me, BUT EVERYBODY Please note they're beating up women now along with the seals.

Oh my heavens......does the minister have some explaining to do....think I will write to member of Parliament that takes care of my area and see if I can get any answers from him. This is so wrong.......and I am a Canadian Citizen. Thank You so much Kathy for this update... interesting how Minister of Fisheries Hearn used the boat as a way to not have people asking questions about what happened with the Canadian Coast guard issue. Wonder what Prime Minister Haper has to say , hmmmmm.

Wonder if Loyola Hearn will take Captain Paul Watson request and have a public debate?

Becky, the Canadian government cares nothing about what we really think or want. Loyola Hearn is a parasitic politician who believes he is above it all. He has the nerve to accuse Paul Watson of being a money grubber! His vitriolic diatribe would be laughable if it weren't so pathetic. Unfortunaly, there are apparently a lot of border line morons in Canada who think this whole to-do is cool. Hearn has invited vacationers to our wonderful country to come visit the seal slaughter and, if they would like to, participate. The clubs are free.
As for you Troll, what a charming name your mother gave you. It's so appropo
