A taste for celery is one that many people never acquire, but scientists have just given them a reason to eat it.They have discovered that a chemical found in high concentrations in celery - and in peppers - could halt memory loss as we get older.

Thanks Anna! By some conicidence, I did my shopping today and bought a gigantic bunch of celery! As I forgot to take my shopping list with me, I think I should have eaten some celery before I went and then I might not have forgotten it! This is really interesting. I know that celery has been used for relieving the inflammation of arthritis. I do remember, that one of the articles on Care 2 not long ago, did happen to mention that celery was on of the most highly polluted vegetables! I wonder if this is really so, as organic celery is an astronomical price here and I couldn't afford to buy it regularly. Now I don't know whether to eat it and become a very sick but smart old lady, or whether to not eat it and live forever but be really dim!!

from our extremely-popular series " 101 comfortable excuses to stay in denial [While the World Burns] "

"Memory Loss" & Altsheimer have becomie epidemic (or is it pandemic?) ... don't worry, just eat more celery!, and the problem [which has nothing to do with stupidification and environMENTAL poisoning, no connection with BSE/CJ, cannot possibly be caused --because this would just be too horrible-- by our world becoming more and more un-bearable and people more and more addicted to methods of denial+escape... ] could go away ? wow, great.

Noted & thanks Anna. Well, there we have the good part - memory & arthritis help, then the bad part, possible polluted vegetable. I'm with Nicky M.'s questions. Peppers May be a better choice but I will check out the pollution ?. Glad I can grow some of my own..

Celery also contains a compound that calms the nerves and helps reduce stress. The hot peppers (jalapenos, cayenne, etc.) mentioned are also good for pain reduction.

Im putting a plan on growing celery into motion in my back yard. Tou can learn to grow even in your balcony and party with nature, see about permaculture principles.

I love celery. I eat it with peanut butter for breakfast sometimes. Depends on the celery in the store. Ants on a log are really good. AKA celery with peanut butter and raisins.

Remember to buy organic celery, as celery is high on the pesticide residue list. Once again, mice are being used to test foods for human consumption!
