Sydney residents have been offered money to leave the city and resettle in rural New South Wales. It is hoped the plan will boost rural areas recovering from a decade-long drought, as well as easing crowding in Australia's most populous city.

thanks Anna, used to live in Sydney and it is lovely, and as pretty as NSW is, I would have found it difficult to leave

Thanks Anna.
Decentralization is the only way to go as a city like Sydney keeps spreading like an ink blot and is so vast in area that some people travel two hours each way to work and back.

Hmmmm, interesting. Be good to know 5 years from now how many residents actually did this.

It is strange how people cluster in cities and spreading out is healthy and more natural. It is also less pressure on the resources.

Noted. Some rural japanese governments are giving tax-breaks and the low-cost or even free use of farmland to try to re-populate the countryside as the younger generation has basically moved to the big cities.

Rhalph, that is a good point. You help people, people moves. But with only that amount who moves from Sydney? To do what? With what money? And, what that has do do with drought? Australia is sufffering because the weather is changing etc... Anyway If I were Australia, I would move a little more towards Protection of animals and rest of nature. At least ethically, spiritually I would be taking a step with the intention of producing a good. A real good. Good would come.
Australians! you still have a marvelous country and you are great.Go for it!
