Murdoch's henchman "journalists" have been doing this in the US for more than a decade. Good to see that he's running scared now, finally: he has shut down NOTW in a cowardly act of avoiding accountability.

I am sooo pleased that this Sunday will be the last time this "newspaper" will be published. Thatcher started a poisonous relationship with them in the 80's and it has gone on ever since...........every PM since then has been guilty.

THE NEWS OF THE WORLD WAS ALWAYS A SCURRILOUS NEWSPAPER - BELONGING TO THE GUTTER PRESS ESTABLISHMENT. THE FACT THAT THEY ARE GUILTY OF THE WORSE KIND OF JOURNALISM AND IN 'HACKING' INTO THE PHONES OF PEOPLE WHO HAVE SUFFERED APPALING GRIEF - SHOULD GET THEM CLOSED DOWN ALTOGETHER. THIS IS ANOTHER EXAMPLE OF THE WAY THE MURDOCH EMPIRE CONTROLS THE MEDIA. WE HOPE TO HIGH HEAVEN THEY DO NOT GET TO BY THE SKY NEWS CHANNEL..... NO ONE WOULD BE SAFE FROM MURDOCH'S EVIL EMPIRE.

The dead should be left in peace. So few of the living are respected, can't we at least respect the dead.

A despicable violation of people's privacy, especially at such a time, grieving their loved ones.
Former Deputy Prime Minister, John Prescott got it about right - NOtW will probably just re-brand!

News of the World closing down-Comment-07-07-2011
In this edition of the show George Galloway talks about the end of News of the World, the biggest-selling newspaper in the English-speaking world.
He also talks about Freedom Flotilla II which has been prevented from leaving for Gaza; sale of tanks from Germany to Saudi Arabia and Libya War.

The fact that News of the World hacked into the answering machines of families" of soldiers killed in action caused much more anger and protest than the fact that the same thing was being done to celebrities and politicains, which I find very interesting. Let's hope an investigation into this leads to punishment and disgrace of the journalist culprits who will resort this low to just get a story. Despicable journalist behaviour, which the U.K. govt. needs to come down hard on. The News of the World is closing down, but could reopen any time soon just under a different name, I've heard it said. Billionarie Rupert Murdoch, I'm sure, has the capability to do this. He should not be allowed to operate anymore gutter press.

This just gets deeper and darker.
It now appears that NOTW internal investigations unnearthed evidence of much of this 4 years ago, but seem tohave done nothing about it.

Well, The Dirty Digger is on the back foot, even David Cameron is looking vulnerable through his association with some of the leading players in this, and his robust defence of some of them, until quite recently.
Interesting times.
