The pushback from Republican NEOCONS is that releasing these dangerous felons will increase terror attacks.. They say everyone in there is dangerous and is a terrorist...

Well, guess what? King George way back in the day in England said the same things about the many, many people he held in his version of Guantanamo without trial, without charges and constant torture, to help him find out the 'real' truth about people conspiring against him behind his back.. King George I am sure called those who resisted his efforts at infinite imprisonment by HIS authority and no other 'terrorists, traitors' or the equivalent.

We established this country to live by the rule of law, and by a jury of our peers, not by the dictates of a KING and Emperor.. We live under a government, which is the PEOPLE, not a kangaroo military court appointed by the same KING..

We live by rules of evidence, which does not allow evidence gathered by torture.. We release people because police or others TORTURE those held in their charge.. Guess what happens if you torture someone who is guilty? They get RELEASED...by LAW...

If we can torture and then execute people who have been tortured, then we become terrorists, who torture and kill, no matter what...

If anyone was released, they were let go because they were tortured, and could not be prosecuted.. The guilt for what they do after that is on Bushes shoulders, not on President Obama.

Obama is trying to re-establish the Constitution, laws, and rights of citizens of this country...If you value any of these things support that.

Another problem with the claim of "they are dangerous" is that the numbers keep changing.. One day the number is 2, then it is 27, then it is 13 out of 800 that went back to fight against the US and became terrorists... Studies of the actual numbers show that they are nothing but hot air, almost universally...

The one or two exceptions? I am amazed that there are only one or two.. If I were held for six or eight years without charges, was tortured, and then released without compensation or apology, my natural inclination as an ordinary person would be to get revenge. It seems to me that GITMO is a great place to CREATE terrorists who hate America... I am amazed that we do not have a 100% terrorist creating machine via GITMO..

Bring in an ordinary taxicab driver, torture him and hold him without charge for eight years, voila; you now have a terrorist willing to destroy Americans for what they did to him.

Now imagine yourself as an innocent person who is kidnapped off the street in Iraq or Afghanistan, where you are then flown via secret CIA planes to some foreign country prison, where you are tortured until you confess you are a terrorist, and to all of the actions that you did as a terrorist?

Of course, if you are innocent, and you confess, you are guilty, and will be executed.. If you do not confess, the torturing will go on and on and on for many years, until you do confess.

Just like the Salem Witch Trials, only 100 times worse, because we now EXPORT TORTURE INTERNATIONALLY, and make other countries DO TORTURE FOR US, instead of doing it ourselves.

So we can stay safely in denial... forever.

Wrong-going only inspires more of the same. This is an ethical issue I am glad to see addressed ! Thanks, Eric !
