"Losing the wolves has been a big hit to us scientifically"- wildlife biologist Douglas Smith of Yellowstone's wolf project, which has tracked the wolves since reintroduction in 1995. all seven radio-collared wolves were within 1-3 miles of park bounds

So sad - and you can't tell me the hunters couldn't have simply chosen not to kill them. If they were after elk there was no reason to shoot the wolves :-(

They killed because they could.
Whether legally or due to having agun to shoot across the distance.

Yes, they saw the radio collars.
