The European Commission seeks to ban meat and milk from cloned livestock, citing objections from most European Union (EU) citizens. The proposed regulations apply to cows, sheep, pigs, goats and horses.
Sadly, this ban would not affect meat and milk from the offspring of these animals. Worse, the proposed rules would not require products of cloned offspring to be labeled: the EU claims that labeling would be too complicated and expensive, and could anger their trade partners.
If EU citizens are ethically opposed to eating meat and milk from cloned animals, it stands to reason that many would be upset by eating products from the offspring of these clones. Due to ethical, religious and/or health reasons, people have the right to know the origins of the food they eat.
