This photo of a young Po hilltribe girl (age 13-14 yrs) was taken in the forest as she was returning to her hilltop village after collecting food and bathing in a nearby stream. Her bamboo carrying container held several tadpoles and an assortment of water beetles for dinner. The girl's many bangles and necklaces distinguish her as eligible for marriage. Both village boys and girls appear to wear red lipstick, which is actually red dye from chewing young roots of the Teak tree. The photograph was taken near Ban Mae Sariang in northwestern Thailand.
