A male Common Peafowl (Pavo cristatus), or peacock, displays his fantastic tail plumage to attract a female, or peahen. Wild Peafowl live in the forests of India, Sri Lanka and the Malay peninsula. The species shows strong sexual dimorphism, as the female lacks the beautiful colors and long tail feathers of the male. A peacock's tail may be 4 to 5 feet (1.2 to 1.5 m) long. Peafowl are omnivorous, eating vegetation, small rodents and reptiles.
