The County Donegal is located in the North-West of Ireland and is surrounded by the Blue Stack mountains. The main town of Donegal dates back to Viking times when a fortress was established at the mouth of the river Eske. It is believed that this gave the town and ultimately the county its name, Dun na nGall, meaning "Fort of the Foreigners".
