The Red or Lesser Panda (Ailurus flugens) is a largely nocturnal animal believed to be more closely related to Raccoons than Giant Pandas. Red Pandas live in bamboo forests in the Himalaya mountain range and southwestern China. While little is known about these reclusive creatures, habitat destruction and hunting in their remaining refuges are believed to be decimating Red Panda populations. The Red Panda is listed by CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species) as an Endangered Species.
