|This young Black Bear was observed on a trail in the Chisos Mountains of Big Bend National Park, Texas, USA. These animals may be observed on the desert floor or high in the mountains of West Texas. Black Bears are omnivorous, though most of their diet is vegetation. After being almost completely eradicated from Texas due to overhunting, habitat loss and past predator control methods in Texas, Black Bears have made a comeback over the past several years and have become one of Big Bend National Park's main attractions. Black Bears have retaken their place (along with Mountain Lions) as one of the two largest predators in Far West Texas. - Jeff Heinatz, photographer.|
