"When baby birds are hatched, they are featherless. In the first couple of months, they get pin feathers that look like little sticks coming out of their skin. When you 'preen' the waxy sheath away, there is a feather inside. I like to go to my local bird store, Chirping Friends in Troy, Michigan, and cuddle with the babies. A lot of people do not know that birds are cuddly and have personalities. They sure do! This little Citron-crested Cockatoo was still in the incubator when I took the photo for this design, but he knew enough to pose...Look at that foot extension!" - artist, Lisa Walsh.
