| A computer enhanced image of the Great Red Spot (GRS) on Jupiter. The GRS is a large vortex or cyclone in Jupiter's upper atmosphere. The storm measures 14,000 km N/S by 40,000 km E/W with wind speeds of up to 360 km/hr. The red color may come from condensation of phosphorus at the cloud tops, or organic molecules synthesized by lighting discharges deep in Jupiter's atmosphere.
