Polar bears mate in April or May. The female enters the den the following fall. She gives birth to her cubs two months after entering the den. Newborn cubs weigh about a pound. Polar bear cubs emerge from the den three months later at an average weight of 15 pounds. As soon as the cubs are strong enough to travel, the female makes her way to the sea to hunt seals. - photographer, Dan Guravich.
