Oak Forest Trail, 1978. Zion National Park, Utah.
The trail leading to the emerald pools in Zion National Park once was graced by an archway of curved oak trees. Only a year or two after I shot this photograph, I learned that a trail crew had torn out the oak trees (believing them to be a potential hazard) without permission from the park service. Constant change in the environment, whether by the hand of man or the forces of God, have been all too evident over the course of my photographic career.
