Sarmishta and Bhavna are from a remote corner of Gujarat, a state in Northern India. Most inhabitants of this rural area - like the two girls - are Adivasi, the indigenous inhabitants of India. The Adivasi used to live a nomadic life in balance with nature, but deforestation forced them to become farmers, marginalised and discriminated against by society. The NGO, (Anand Niketan Ashram), fights for their rights and supports them in many areas - schooling, non-formal education, agricultural projects, reforestation etc. The girls attend the NGO's school.
