Former Muslim Tried for Converting to Christianity*

A Jordanian man who is on trial for converting from Islam to Christianity may lose legal custody of his children and have his marriage annulled if found guilty of “apostasy.” Mohammad Abbad, 40, fled Jordan last month after Muslims violently attacked him and his 10-year-old son in their home. His father sued him on charges of apostasy for leaving Islam.

“I can’t win this case as long as I insist that I converted from Islam to Christianity,” Abbad wrote from the safety of a nearby country. “The court will annul my marriage, I will be deprived of my kids, I will be with no ID or passport, and my properties will be confiscated.”  Read More…

Please pray protection for Mohammad Abbad and his family and that “apostasy” will no longer be a law in Jordan. (John 17:15)

Jordan Annuls Christian Convert's Marriage*

A Jordanian Islamic law court has annulled the marriage of a former Muslim because of his conversion to Christianity. In April, the North Amman Sharia Court dissolved the marriage of Mohammad Abbad, who is on trial for apostasy because of his conversion from Islam to Christianity. The 40-year-old convert fled Jordan with his wife and two young children in March after the relatives of another Christian convert attacked Abbad’s family in their home and his father demanded custody of Abbad’s children. Please Pray:

  • That the court officials will change their minds and that Abbad’s marriage will be recognized by the courts as an official marriage. (Acts 25:10)
  • That Abbad’s trial for “apostasy” will be dismissed and that they would acknowledge their own constitutional guarantees of religious freedom. (Galatians 5:1)
  • For Abbad’s family to be able to live peacefully and continue to serve Jesus Christ. (Matthew 4:10)
