Please also join in prayer for Christians in Bangladesh*

Muslim villagers in Bangladesh, eager to rid the area of the Christian work of a local pastor, have raped his 13-year-old daughter, according to Compass Direct News. Pastor Motilal Das said that at around 3 a.m. on Friday, May 2, the villagers sexually assaulted his daughter and left her unconscious in front of his house in an attempt to drive him and his Christian ministry out of Laksmipur village. The pastor said that local residents are angry with him for his ministry and continued evangelism, and has received many death threats as an outcropping of the hostility. Read More…

Please Pray:

  • That Pastor Motilal Das will be able to forgive the perpetrators who took advantage of his daughter, and that he will be able to continue on with his ministry.
  • That Pastor Motilal Das’ daughter will receive an emotional and physical restoration from this act of unspeakable cruelty and hatred.

Update on Pastor’s Daughter*

BANGLADESH - Pastor Motilal Das, who has long received threats from villagers upset with his success as an evangelist, said that local residents sexually assaulted his 13-year-old daughter on May 2 in an attempt to drive him away. Pastor Das said relatives of the alleged rapists have offered him a large sum of money to withdraw the case or settle out of court even as they continue to threaten him.

The suspects have been charged, and if convicted, they will receive life in prison, according to the state prosecutor. Previously, a medical college had submitted a false forensic report indicating no evidence of sexual assault. According to Compass Direct News, villagers believe relatives of the accused men paid off the medical college to fabricate the false test results. Bangladeshi Muslims Threaten Pastor for Evangelizing

A Christian pastor in Meherpur district suffers continued torture and harassment at the hands of 4,000 Muslims.

Jhontu Biswas, 31, said residents of Fulbaria town accused him of misleading Muslims by distributing Christian booklets. They confronted him on Dec. 9 as they gathered for the Islamic Eid al-Adha festival of sacrifice. “They also accused me of converting poor people by offering money,” said Biswas. “They called several local journalists in that massive assembly to publish news against me and my activities. They took my photograph and interviewed me but did not publish anything in their respective newspapers.”

Biswas denied the accusations against him, and the Muslims threatened to harm him and others who converted from Islam to Christianity.  Read more on the continual persecution Biswas endures for his faith.

Bangladesh - Muslim Protests Stall Church Construction

Authorities called for a five-month halt to construction of a church in northern Bangladesh, for fear of huge conversions.  The construction of the Ishai Fellowship Church began in early November 2008, but after Muslims protested, the mayor halted construction.  “The local Muslims fired all the cylinders of the society to stop building a church in this vicinity. They want me not to work for the expansion of the Kingdom of God here. They persuaded the city council authority to stop [construction of] the church,” Mashi, a pastor of Calvary Ishai Fellowship, told Compass. “The mayor of the city council told me that I did not have any building plan and permission from them to build a house here, so I should stop the construction work.”

Devote yourself to prayer… that God may open a door for our message, so that we may proclaim the mystery of Christ” Colossians 4:23. Father we see that You are building Your church in Bangladesh. We pray for Your word to spread in a mighty way, reaching the darkest of places, penetrating deep into the hearts of the lost. We eagerly join in the battle as You continue to grow Your church worldwide. Intervene in this nation Lord, for Your glory.

A district official told Compass that construction would resume soon. “Christians in this country have the right to practice their religion as well as the right to build churches,” the official said. “I think the permission of building the church will be given soon from the city council. If anybody actively obstructs the construction of the church, we will protect it.”

Father we pray for the continued construction of this new church in Bangladesh. Let Your light go out from that place into all the world. "Let no one cause me trouble, for I bear on my body the marks of Jesus." Galatians 6:17

3/4/10 Christians’ Homes Burned in Bangladesh- Anti-Christian extremists burned down the homes of several Christian families in Bangladesh earlier this week, including the home of a Gospel for Asia-supported missionary. The Christians are now homeless as their homes and belongings were all completely destroyed in the attack. They covet your prayers.
