Crisis in the Congo

Samaritan’s Purse is rushing emergency aid to thousands of people who have been displaced by escalating violence in the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Our DC-3 cargo plane landed in the provincial capital of Goma today, carrying a second load food, blankets, medical supplies, and shelter materials. In recent weeks more than 250,000 people have been driven from their homes and are struggling to survive.

“People are just flooding in and the camps are being overwhelmed,” said Dr. Warren Cooper, who is leading the Samaritan’s Purse disaster relief team in Goma.

“The kids are thin and look malnourished, and I think it’s going to get worse. Nutrition is a huge need.”

to Dr. Cooper’s firsthand report from Goma.
