Dying For the Faith

In Acts 7:59-60, the Bible documents the death of a man named Stephen, a Christian who was stoned to death for telling others about Jesus Christ.  His murder would become the first documented case of Christian martyrdom in history.

Christians have been dying for the faith ever since.

According to statistical research performed by the WEF Religious Liberty Commission, over 100 million Christians were martyred in the 20th century – more than all the previous 19 centuries combined.  The tremendous growth of the evangelical church in countries such as Latin America, sub-Sahara Africa, and Asia is one main causes for the rise in persecution.

In many of these countries and regions, the persecution of powerless Christians can also stem from a hatred of the Western world and the United States.

Persecution takes many forms, including imprisonment or torture for attending Christian worship services or Bible studies, proselytizing, or even the simple “crime” of owning a Bible.  Christian churches that have not been licensed by the government are burned, and violence against Christian homes, businesses, and communities are common.  In famine-stricken areas, many Christians are even denied food unless they agree to renounce their faith.

For far too many of these believers, martyrdom is the ultimate price they will pay for their faith in Jesus Christ.

About CFI

From the brickyards of Pakistan to the jungles of Burma, Christian Freedom International is a leading organization in the fight for suffering, persecuted Christians worldwide.

CFI serves the persecuted church by combining aid with advocacy in Washington, DC.  We carefully document evidence of persecution around the world and present our findings to policymakers, which assists them in making informed decisions regarding trade, aid, visas and other related issues with a particular country.

CFI is also a leader in advancing the concept of “self-help,” or “microenterprise,” where we train indigenous Christians to support themselves, their families and their churches through the sale of quality handcrafts.

Jim Jacobson, a former White House policy analyst for the Reagan administration and political appointee under the George Herbert Walker Bush administration, is the President of Christian Freedom International.  Mr. Jacobson has testified before Congress, and conducted briefings at the White House, the State Department, and the United Nations on behalf of persecuted Christians worldwide.  He has personally delivered aid and Bibles to dozens of countries where Christians are suffering for their faith.

That's great that the organization is doing that. I really want to read A chance to die by Elizabeth Elliot.
Here is what Amazon says about it:

 I AM HIS

Who am I.. ?

I'm part of the fellowship of the unashamed. I have stepped over the line. The decision has been made. I'm a disciple of Jesus Christ and His opinion of me is the only one that matters. I won't look back, let up, slow down, back away, or be still. My past is redeemed, my present makes sense, and my future is secure. I'm finished and done with low living, sight walking, small planning, smooth knees, colorless dreams, tamed visions, mundane talking, cheap living, and dwarfed goals. I no longer need preeminence, prosperity, position, promotions, plaudits, or popularity. I don't have to be right, first, tops, recognized, praised, regarded, or rewarded. I now live by faith, lean on His presence, walk by patience, lifted by prayer, and labor by power. My face is set, my gait is fast, my goal is Heaven, my road is narrow, my way rough, my companions few, my Guide reliable, my mission clear. I cannot be bought, deluded, or delayed. I will not flinch in the face of sacrifice, hesitate in the presence of the adversary, negotiate at the table of the enemy, or meander in the maze of mediocrity. I won't give up, shut up, let go, until I have stayed up, stored up, prayed up, paid up, and preached up for the cause of the Lord and the Truth of His Word. I am a disciple of the Alpha & Omega, the Beginning and the End, the Lion and the Lamb. I must go until He comes, give until I drop, and work until He stops me. And when He comes for His own, He will have no problem recognizing me...my banner will be clear! I will not be hidden in a crowd.
