I signed what I had not. I wanted to sign the FAADA one but they want me to be European for from the UK. I thought of lying but I am not really good at that. (I just hada flock of wild turkeys outside and I didn't even know until I saw them flying off because my darn cat chased them away. At least they did get away. (bad cat!)
Hurricane Florence : Millions left behind to die
It’s now been over several weeks since Hurricane Florence struck, and while life carries on for most, few realize the just how high the death toll has been, and the animal lives that have perished.
A staggering 3.4 million chickens and turkeys have been confirmed dead, as well as over five thousand pigs. And the number is only expected to rise.
These “assets,” as which they had later been described, were left behind to die.
These frightened animals fought for their lives. Some of the pigs managed to swim and escape, but many more weren’t as lucky. These young pigs never had the opportunity to exercise or even go outside, so many drowned or died from exhaustion.
It's hard to imagine the terror they felt in the last moments of their little lives.
This mass tragedy shows the darkest side of factory farming, and in the wake of this silent tragedy, World Animal Protection demands an end to factory farming.
Through advocating with governments and putting pressure on pork producers and supermarkets, together we can move the world to implement changes to end the suffering of millions of pigs, and put an end to factory farming once and for all.
Kind people in 176 different countries are helping to get animals off ships

I guess we should include frogs and others who one does not normally think of.
Today is national World Day for Farmed Animals. Since 1983, the annual observance of this day (Gandhi's birthday) has been offering people the opportunity to memorialize and mourn the billions of innocent lives that are brutally slaughtered. It is an opportunity to ask family, friends and neighbors to think about their food choices, as they have a dire impact on innocent lives.
Part of World Day for Farmed Animals is our annual Fast Against Slaughter which occurs on the same day. We understand that not everyone has the means or ability to join us in this one-day fast to help promote conversations, but there are other ways in which you can help. It is not too late to join the fast today; we ask that you make a sign and take a photo of yourself holding it (example above) and share them on social media using #FastAgainstSlaughter.
One of the most important things you can do today is to share with people you know the experiences you've had with farmed animals. If you are sharing your experience on social media, you can use #WDFA and #DayForAnimals. Explain why this day is important to you; our abuses page can be helpful in educating others. We have several "Dream/Reality" memes on our resources page if you would like to include them with your story.
Another thing you can do is share recent news articles about the horrific news from North Carolina where the death toll has recently exceeded 4 million. These innocent animals were abandoned and left to drown. Some articles you can share can be found here and here.
If you have any questions, please let us know. We are grateful that you continue to stand with us to help bring about a more caring world.
Thank you for your compassion and dedication to helping animals!
I have not been able to drive my car for days now and since I only really see people in stores or at appts. I have not seen anyone except for one short conversation on the road and I have to say that it does not bother me in the least. If I could live around vegans/animal activists, etc. I would be fine but I do not miss people even though it has only been since Thursday.
I confess I had not thought about the frogs as being "farmed" but of course that is what they would do. I have thought about the fact that like sharks.elephants, and rhinos only a part of their bodies are used. IT is disgusting and that this happens. Ther selfisness of people who would kill animals for a fraction of their bodies makes me so angry-and they call themselves civilized-def.-haivng an advanced humane culture, society... (I just looked it up to see exactly what the definiton is.)
I now read an article (in german) that SUISSE imports 150 tons of living frogs a year for restaurants. They only use the frogs' legas, the rest of the body is waste...
It is horrible Jan!! I never knew such farms exist!
I couldn't find the animal activist topic to post info below, the one that you have opened Jan. Can you post the link please?
58 Activists Charged With Felonies For Rescuing Dying Hens
Yesterday, I was arrested alongside 57 other DxE activists and charged with felony burglary and felony conspiracy for providing medical care to sick and dying animals.
We walked into a massive organic, “free range” chicken farm that supplies Amazon and found countless birds who were collapsed in their own feces and urine, unable to stand to reach food and water. Other birds were in respiratory distress and had broken wings. We set up a medical center to give immediate care to the suffering birds. Before this action, we repeatedly asked Amazon to show consumers the truth, and we’ve called upon law enforcement to address this criminal animal cruelty. Once again, we were left to take action ourselves.
Yesterday, we carried six chickens out of that farm. Five of them were confiscated and killed by law enforcement. The remaining one, Rose, is safe at a sanctuary, receiving urgent medical care. Seven of our activists remain in jail, including DxE’s co-founder Wayne Hsiung, who is fasting in solidarity with the animals. With your support, we can ensure that acts of violence on behalf of the government, such as killing innocent chickens and arresting compassionate activists, will not go unchallenged. We are working to establish the right to rescue and to expand our investigatory network.
With mounting legal fees and Rose potentially needing surgery and a wheelchair, we need your help more than ever. The industry may be fighting back, but we will promise to fight even harder to bring light into the darkness.
I saw that video too Monika.

Science and research are important commodities that can advance us as a society and bring progress for the welfare of the animals. However, especially in the field of agronomy, much of the effort is focused on improving the efficiency of the industry, which is responsible for much of the animal's suffering: factory farming. Every year, many research projects are initiated, in which scientific institutions, above all colleges and their institutes, work together with companies from the livestock industry with the aid of state funds, for example. Even if this fact itself is to be questioned, it gets even worse when research funds go to torture companies

Tyson is the largest poultry producer in the U.S. and one of the most notorious animal-abusing companies in history. In response to overwhelming consumer demand to end needless torture of chickens, dozens of major food companies—including Subway, Burger King, Starbucks, Compass Group, Aramark, Sodexo, and Chipotle—have committed to improving their animal welfare standards to help prevent needless suffering. Tyson, however, continues to support horrific animal abuse by failing to adopt the same meaningful animal welfare standards. Tell Tyson it’s time to stop torturing chickens!
Signed .Thank you Marilyn
Factory farming pollutes water and contributes to climate chaos. Pesticides poison people and are leading to the decline of bees and monarch butterflies. And yet Aramark, Sodexo, and Compass Group are lining the pockets of “Big Food” corporations like Tyson, which produce pesticide-intensive, GMO-fed, factory-farmed meat.
If food service companies shifted to serving food that is good for people and the planet, it would make a huge impact. But we need your help to urge them to act!

Dear Farm Bill House Conference Members,
dear Legislative Assistants:
I want to ask you to please oppose the infamous King Amendment, the Protect Interstate Commerce Act, H.R. 4879!
This amendment wants to eradicate necessary Existing State Animal Welfare, Environmental Protection and Consumer Protection Laws!
Which means an historic low in protecting animals, wildlife and people!
Please don't let this happen, we have to fight against this man, King, who even is in favor of barbaric dog fighting! He tried this before!
Agree with you Kate!
Shanta, I don't know if she is healthy, probably yes, she is still young. But as we all know a vegetarian/vegan life style is much healthier than eating meat!
Victories for animals!
I’m delighted to share exciting news with you today. In the last couple of weeks we have made significant progress on our campaigns.
Just last week, City of York Council rejected a planning application to create an intensive chicken farm in the village of Rufforth. We ran a vigorous campaign against the plans and over 5,000 of you objected to them via our website. In addition, Animal Aid staff took our campaign to the streets, gathered numerous objection letters to hand in to the council, and gave a talk to local residents.
In the previous week, we also reached the 100,000 signature milestone on our petition calling for an independent body to regulate race horse welfare and take action to end race horse deaths. As a result, this issue is now being considered for a debate in parliament.
I completely get what everyone is saying. If I had been there, Jan, I too would have wanted to smack her. Welsh lamb is no different than lamb served anywhere else in that an animal has been killed for someone's meal and suffered beforehand. I am vegan tried and true. I would also like to give your neighbor a smack Monika. I am sure we all have stories of stupid meat eaters and could spend many hours if we were all in the same place.
The Farm Bill currently in committee includes huge amounts of funding for factory farms, which pollute our planet, undermine human health, and subject animals to horrific lives that end in slaughter. Join Farm Sanctuary in urging lawmakers to oppose Farm Bill policies that prop up Big Ag corporations.
Signed all. Thank you Marilyn...
Here we all are vegans/ vegetarians I presume! Monika, does your neighbour enjoy a perfect health ? I hate it more when the ignorant guys say that animal protein is a must specially for the kids .
A PETA eyewitness investigation into a filthy egg factory farm in Oklahoma that supplies eggs to retailers, including Kroger (which sells them as Kroger-brand eggs), reveals that nearly 8,000 hens suffered and died in a matter of weeks in July and August 2018, when temperatures in the farm’s sheds reached 106 degrees.
Over several days in early August, workers yanked more than 49,000 unwanted hens out of their cages, beat their heads against metal boxes, stuffed them inside the boxes, and then gassed them with carbon dioxide, which can be extremely painful. Countless hens survived the abuse, as well as being dumped into trucks, so they were beaten with a piece of wood or slammed against the trucks. Those who survived were left to die slowly and in agony.
Me too, Shanta! The smell makes me feel throw up! I have a young woman living underneath my apartment and she is a meat junkie! She cooks meat every evening after returning home from work. And the disgusting smell comes in my apartment if the windows are open (during the summer heat they have been open all the time). I cannot run fast enough to shut them to avoid having this ugly smell of dead animals in my home!!
Signed. Thank you Kate. Jan I am stunned . Was his vegetarianism a mask only? I can't even stand the smell of the cooking meat and he gulped down!
Me neither Kate and I don't understand anyone who can. We had 2 visitors here last week, (who thank God I did not speak to) who told our Head Keeper they had been vegetarians for a year but as they were visiting Wales just had to taste Welsh Lamb.
A singing “chicken” visited the McDonald’s headquarters in Chicago this week, delivering the message that the fast food giant needs to stop the gruesome cruelty to the animals in its supply chain.
The singing telegram was delivered by a vocalist in chicken costume from animal advocacy organization Compassion Over Killing (COK), who have been targeting the company this year alongside a coalition of organizations including Animal Equality, The Humane League, and Mercy for Animals.
“While McDonald’s focuses on its fast-food profits, it’s allowing unnaturally fast growth to cripple hundreds of millions of birds in its supply chain,” said Laura Cascada, director of corporate outreach for COK.
In March, the coalition published an open letter to McDonald’s in the New York Times, highlighting the horrific factory farm practices of overcrowding and abnormal growth rates and urging the worldwide conglomerate to address these issues in their policies.
“If a human baby grew in the same way, they’d be 660 pounds at just two months old,” stated the letter.
More recently, a giant digital billboard was launched in Times Square, exposing the torture inflicted on birds by Mcdonald’s suppliers. The ad will continue to play 60 times a day until October 31st.
With McDonald’s sourcing hundreds of millions of chickens every year for their products, they have enormous power to make massive change in the industry.
The coalition is asking for natural growth rates, more space for the chickens, better housing conditions and the chance for the birds to exhibit natural behaviors.
“There’s a lot of sadness behind each Happy Meal,” said Cascada. “Right now, McDonald’s has the chance not only to address the suffering of animals raised for its menu but also to get in on a sizzling meatless market by serving up a vegan option.”
More than 90 companies, including Burger King, Dunkin Donuts, Subway, and Starbucks have already committed to addressing these issues. COK plan to continue their protests until McDonald’s take action to stop the cruelty.
Signed all. Thank you Marilyn Kate and Monika

Many people are avoiding meat these days for many reasons. In my family we often enjoy meatless options. Some of us vegetarians, some pescatarian and some just try and not consume so much meat for health reasons.
It takes more than 2,400 gallons of water to produce just 1 pound of meat, but it takes just 25 gallons to grow 1 pound of wheat. So, cutting back on meat would also save resources.
I have tried so many meat options, however impossible meat is my favorite. I think if IN-N-OUT would consider a plant based burger it would not only be good for our planet, but will bring back many people who have decided not to eat beef.
If nothing else please sign this petition for this crying cow. https://www.facebook.com/iamdominickthompson/videos/1170658353072736/
