About Me	I co-founded WhyHunger in 1975 with the late singer Harry Chapin. Since its founding, we have developed and implemented important hunger and poverty programs such as the National Hunger Hotline, the National Hunger Clearinghouse, the Grassroots Action Network, Artists Against Hunger and Poverty, Hungerthon© and the Harry Chapin Self-Reliance Awards. WhyHunger has served as a founding member of the National Association of Hunger Organizations (NAHO) and the National Jobs for All Coalition. For the past 40 years, I have been a broadcaster on commercial radio and TV and currently host two weekly Sunday night radio shows on WPLJ 95.5 FM in New York. I am also a member of the board of advisers of Long Island Cares, Long Island's food bank. I am happily married to Jeannine Ayres, a life coach and college professor. We have two daughters Michelle and Suzanne, and one granddaughter Jaida Lynn.

My Philosophy	Is shaped by the work of Aristotle, Plato, and Thomas Aquinas. I believe that life is a journey into the Mystery which you can't control, but which you can grow in and be open to. I believe that strength and healing comes from empowerment, and enabling others to realize their own significance.
What Gives Me Hope	The power of the Spirit that lives in each person, and therefore empowers us to receive gifts from the Spirit and share them with others.

What/who changed my life and why	In August of 1963, I took the train from New York to join the March on Washington. I was inspired by the courage, dedication, and ideas of Martin Luther King and other civil rights leaders who peacefully fought for justice and unity. In the 1974, I spent a day at Maryknoll Mission Society watching films about child poverty. I realized the critical need to address hunger both in the United States and around the world. A month later, I met Harry Chapin, and asked him to join me to help fight poverty.
