About Me The currently growing anti-feminism and increasing gender criticism are an expression of growing polarization. It deals with the power of definition over gender, sexuality and family as well as the meaning of justice, freedom and equality.
Feminism has been challenged since it existed. Since women * resist their oppression, attempts are also being made to prevent this emancipation effort. Why are anti-feminist slogans and policies currently picking up again? Whether on the Internet, at universities or in parliament - the attacks on feminist achievements and gender equality have become more biting and organized. They come from parties (such as the AfD), men's rights movements or religious fundamentalist circles. But also in leading media anti-feminist positions are represented. But what is being attacked? What is feminism?

What is feminism?
There is no universally valid definition: historically, time and again meant something else. Even today there is no single movement or ideology behind feminism, but there are many feminism in different places in the world. For the discrimination, marginalization and oppression of women * is different at every historical time and in every society and takes different forms, depending on the social environment in which one moves or which social origin is of importance.

Nevertheless, there are common feminist assumptions, first and foremost: the sexes are equal and should therefore be equal and have equal opportunities. These premises are also contained in the constitutions and basic laws of democratic societies. However, another feminist assumption is not reached: 'Feminine' or 'womanhood' has a lower status compared to 'masculinity' or 'being a man'. Women * are less competent, less important, less serious. Also, things that women do * are often considered less important. Conversely, things that have little prestige are defined as 'women's things'. Against this background, no equality has been achieved in specific areas such as equal pay, sexual violence and harassment, career opportunities, care work or retirement provision.
