11 Pigs That Will Help You Quit Bacon

Editor’s note: An earlier version of this post was published in 2015.

It’s no secret America has a love affair with bacon. From burgers to pizzas and even dessert, it seems bacon is always an optional add-on. However, perhaps because you’ve found out that bacon increases your chance of dying young by 44 percent and pollutes the air and waterways in a major way, or because you want to lose a few pounds, you have decided to ditch bacon.

Fantastic! To help your cause we could remind you of the horrid way in which bacon is made or tell you that pigs are extremely smart and loving animals, but, as they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. These 15 Instagram accounts feature piglets, potbelly pigs, micro pigs and pigs with dog best friends. It’s all too adorable and seeing these faces is the perfect antidote for a bacon addiction.

1. Esther The Wonder Pig

The first lady of internet piggy stardom, Esther the wonder pig is one lovable 500 pound lady. Her guardians got her as a baby when they were told she was a micro pig but she kept on growing and growing. Instead of giving her away, the whole family then moved away from the city into a farm in Canada and started the Happily Ever Esther Sanctuary. The account features Esther’s day-to-day life with her new rescued friends, many naps and fabulous winter outfits.

2. Priscilla and Poppleton

Priscilla and Poppleton, or Prissy and Pop for the ones familiar with the duo, are a brother and sister pair of micro pigs living in Ponte Vedra Beach, Fla. They share sometimes matching and sometimes complementary outfits, travel in a stroller and go to school every day with their guardian who teaches first grade.

3. Mr. Bacon the Pig Star

If you want to put a face in bacon, here’s your chance. This mini pig named Mr. Bacon from Cancun, Mexico, fits into a cat bed, plays in the sand, watches the sunset and hangs out with his dog friend, Mila.

4. Egbert the Mini Pig

Egbert, or “Eggy,” is a cute minipig who enjoys visiting the beach in Southern California.

5. American Pet Pig Association

For a variety of pig cuteness, the American Pet Pig Association is the account to follow. Featuring pet pigs of all sizes and colors, the APPA features a pig of the day, which is bound to become a part of your routine.

6. Chatty the Big Pink Pig

Chatty was in a TV commercial with her sister in New Zealand when her guardians fell in love and adopted her. Now she lives with them in a farm with chickens and goats where she naps in the sun, eats vegan pizza and enjoys her fair amount of cuddles.

7. Dear Chochino

Chochino is a Spanish mini pig living with a vegan family in Madrid. She has been featured in the pages of Glamour Spain next to some Dolce & Gabbana shoes, and likes to sleep in bubble wrap and take baths.

8. Pumpernickel

You’ve seen animals smiling for photos before, but Pumpernickel does it for every single one. This tiny and adorable man has a powerful oink and loves to hang under his blankets and run around the grass while wearing a sweater.

9. Brimley the Pig

Brimley lives in Queen Creek, Ariz., where he is always amazing his guardian with his carefree and carpe diem lifestyle. Whether he is blowing bubbles in the pool, sleeping on a pile of leaves or doing circles while begging for food, this guy is always inspirationally happy.

10. Bacon and Zeus

Bacon started out a micro pig but then grew to be almost the size of his buddy, Zeus, a Cane Corso. Living in Vancouver Island, Bacon gets to enjoy the outdoors, and when indoors he sleeps under his favorite Winnie the Pooh blanket.

11. Uminyolo

Umi is a 10-year-old potbelly pig living in Japan who has no idea just how big she is. This big girl loves to sleep and after seeing her all wrapped up in her bed, you’ll never look at a pig in a blanket the same way again.
