4 Horrible Things Sitting Lawmakers Said About Women This Week

One of the biggest selling points that President Donald Trump offered his supporters was the idea that if he was elected, “political correctness” was out the window. Trump’s rise to power emboldened harassment on social media, in face-to-face contact, and even inspired one lawmaker to literally grab a woman’s genital†just because he felt he could.

This isn’t just a one time thing, either. It’s becoming clear that male lawmakers see the inauguration of Trump as a sign that sexism is totally fine now, and being hateful to women is no longer something that can cost a man his political career. Here are four horrible things male lawmakers said about women just this week.

1) “Liberal women are always unhappy – buy your own birth control.”

The extremely popular Women’s Marches on January 21 had a number of conservative male lawmakers in a tizzy. One of the angriest? Mississippi state Senator Chris McDaniel, who demanded on Facebook that they act happier and stop whining about wanting no copay birth control.

“So a group of unhappy liberal women marched in Washington DC. We shouldn’t be surprised; almost all liberal women are unhappy. Perhaps there’s a correlation,”†he posted on Facebook. “But I do have a question: if they can afford all those piercings, tattoos, body paintings, signs, and plane tickets, then why do they want us to pay for their birth control?”

2) “Oh, and they are all fat, too.”

Meanwhile, in Indiana, a Republican state Senator there also hit social media to complain about the march.

“[State Senator Jack] Sandlin, a Republican who represents†36th District†voters who live between†10th Street and†south of Greenwood in Johnson County, took down the†message but not before screenshots had been widely shared on Facebook and Twitter,” reports the Indianapolis Star. “The post in question went up Sunday and†showed a†photo of a mass of protesters, many in pink hats and carrying signs, with the words “In one day Trump got more fat women out walking than Michelle Obama did in 8 years.”

Sandlin denies he posted the meme to his page, saying someone else must have put it there. If so, it must have been someone else with access to his account, since the screenshot shows otherwise.

3) “And ugly. They are also ugly.”

Nebraska state Senator Bill Kintner also got in on the jabs at the marchers, in his case calling them too ugly to sexually assault.

Fox News reports†that, “Kintner drew fierce criticism Sunday when he retweeted Los Angeles talk show host Larry Elder, who mocked a picture of three women with signs protesting Donald Trump’s comments about touching women inappropriately. Above the photo, Elder wrote: ‘Ladies, I think you’re safe.’”

Unlike the others attacking the people in the march, Kintner was†pushed to resign – but that has more to do with a long and problematic history of controversy than his actual remarks this week.

4) “Women get abortions because they are totally irresponsible.”

Why is one Texas lawmaker trying to make abortion completely illegal (and punish a person who does it illegally if that person gets caught)? It’s to teach women to be more responsible about having sex.

“State Representative Tony Tinderholt, of Arlington, said in an interview with the Observer that, if passed, the bill would reduce the number of pregnancies ‘when they know that thereís repercussions,’” The Texas Observer reports. “‘Right now, itís real easy. Right now, they donít make it important to be personally responsible because they know that they have a backup of “oh, I can just go get an abortion.” Now, we both know that consenting adults donít always think smartly sometimes. But consenting adults need to also consider the repercussions of the sexual relationship that theyíre gonna have, which is a child,’ Tinderholt said.”

These are the same guys who think they have to protect women from running into transgenders in the ladies room. Hah. Donn M, just for the record, I am a liberal woman and I am VERY happy. And if you think women are irresponsible for having abortions, I double-dog-dare you to go to Facebook and read about Lindsey Paradiso's experience.

Seems a lot of people are afraid of beautiful, strong, independent women who can make their own choices.

More ugliness from the mindset of folks that brought us President Trump. This should not be unexpected. President Trump has given his stamp of approval for this type of behavior.
