5 Reasons Trump Wouldn’t Get Security Clearance If He Weren’t President

In recent weeks, the news has been filled with stories of dozens of White House staffers, including Jared Kushner and Rob Porter, who can’t get a security clearance for various reasons. It starts to make you wonder: how does President Donald Trump pass the background checks to access top-secret intelligence?

Short answer: He doesn’t have to. The working assumption is that the voting public would never choose someone with such a checkered background to serve in the top office (snort) thus avoiding this problem altogether.

However, now Norman Eisen and Richard Painter, chair and vice chair of the Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington, are alerting the public to an idea that should have been plainly obvious already: there’s no way Trump would be able to get a security clearance or a job in the White House for that matter with all of the conflicts he’s facing.

In a new op-ed, Eisen and Painter go through several reasons why Trump would have to be tossed out of the White House, if he weren’t elected to the position:

1. HE’S ALREADY BLABBED SECRETS

Remember in May when Trump took a meeting with Russian officials in the Oval Office and, by his own admission, shared with them highly sensitive intelligence that he wasn’t supposed to? To make matters worse, those weren’t even the U.S.’s secrets to share, that was intelligence passed along from foreign allies that wasn’t intended to be shared with the Russians.

Someone who can’t be trusted to maintain secrets would ordinarily never be given continued access to them.

2. EXTENSIVE FOREIGN BUSINESS DEALS

If Kushner’s security ordeal has taught us anything, it’s that our national intelligence agencies consider extensive foreign business transactions to be a major liability. That’s because they’re worried that foreign governments, banks and entities can exercise influence over government officials when their money is tied up with these parties.

Trump himself is no exception to that sort of thing. The op-ed lists sixteen countries where Trump has deals that are easily considered conflicts of interest. Worst still, we know that the Trump Organization owes hundreds of millions to unknown parties, which means Trump can be making decisions according to his debts rather than America’s best interests.

3. SEXUAL MISCONDUCT ALLEGATIONS

With a total of twenty-one women having accused Trump of sexual assault and the like over the past few decades – which I might add seem extra credible given what he admitted on the infamous Access Hollywood tape – Trump would ordinarily be red-flagged immediately as a target for blackmail to try to keep these and other stories out of the press.

4. THE STORMY DANIELS HUSH MONEY

There’s also the matter of the ongoing Stormy Daniels saga. We now pretty much know that Trump’s attorney, Michael Cohen, paid the porn actress $130,000 to keep quiet about her affair with the now-president, with the expectation that he’d be reimbursed by Trump through some channel.

Although scandalous, the real problem that the FBI would flag is that Trump has skeletons in his closet that he is willing to pay to keep quiet and is therefore, again, susceptible to being blackmailed.

5. CRIMINAL INVESTIGATIONS

On top of it all, it’s no secret that Trump is the subject of criminal investigations. Whether or not Trump is guilty of colluding with foreign parties to sway the U.S. election or he’s tried to obstruct justice is almost irrelevant. The weight of such investigations would prompt the FBI to pass on giving the subject of these allegations clearance in the first place.

Altogether, these reasons illustrate a frightening picture of a man who has no business leading the country. There are so many ways in which he could be compromised.

Although Trump was elected – with a lot less of this information than we have now – we shouldn’t be resigned to accepting this situation. At a certain point, Congress has the obligation to step in and declare the president to be too much of a liability for such a powerful office. Our legislators are the ones failing to act to protect the nation.

So if Russian interference is proven to have swayed the vote does T get unelected and replaced? If so by which party. Or a new election? And would all the changes he made be reversed? Just asking.

Sharon B, at the risk of annoying the CHINOs, I always felt that Twitler was more like the Christian deity in human form! Read the Bible, take a look at what Twitler's doing to women, LGBTs, the poor/working class, non-Christians, and non-whites, and tell me there isn't a resemblance! Scary stuff!

janis keller, your post is bad enough - please don't shout it!
In case you didn't realise (I'll give you the benefit of the doubt) writing in all upper case is regarded as shouting in internet etiquette.

Democrats negative and violent? What on earth have you been reading - or watching? I think we can guess!

It's all so pitiful -- and it has been for so long, really. .How did they convince our parents 'it would all get put to rights, just hang on', for so long (into the late '70s and '80s, anyway) - and we believed that, too - we 'trusted by patriotic commitment'-
until we became adults. Because our parents did...

When out parents could no longer believe they started refusing to talk about it anymore. But, then, even once WE knew in our guts this program wasn't turning up 'for right' -- most of us still hung back. We voted but that's kind of really all, in most of my generations' cases... a little volunteering maybe. But we stayed out of the fray, kind of almost thinking we were supposed to 'not get involved where we don't belong', or something!

Now we learn.

I get most of my news from Canadian and British sources.

I heard this morning that the trump's lawyers were going to contact the same lawyers that Bill Clinton used during his impeachment investigation.
Can't be soon enough .
