Americans Want Power Companies To Embrace Renewables

Utility companies get a lot of grief from renewable energy advocates these days. Most power plants in the U.S. run off of coal or nuclear energy, two fuels that have repeatedly been shown to be dangerous and hazardous to human health. Like most elements of our infrastructure, utility companies are happy with the way things are, and resistant to change.

In a recent poll conducted by One Block Off The Grid, customers of the 10 biggest power companies in America rated their energy providers along several different criteria, including how much their utility was doing to support renewable energy production. The results are something a typical school kid would hide in their backpack.

In general, those who had a utility that was helping them buy or produce green energy were more satisfied overall. Are you listening utility companies?

Solar, wind, wave energy would be great!

If corporations paid their taxes there would be enough money to pay for infrastructure improvements, they do not need subsides, just goes to the undeserving..

Sara H almost impossible to make coal cleaner but if you do you will enrich the KOCHROACHES!! much better to have renewables with forms of storage to use the excess off peak power.
I am immune to power cuts as I have a stand alone system with solar & would like to get wind turbines for the winter!

As a country we should stop subsidizing the dirty oil, and coal industries to the tune of billions of dollars each year and start subsidizing clean renewable providers of energy. Secondly, clean coal does not exist it is a figment of the Koch Brothers imagination and propaganda machine. Nuclear energy proponents don't advertise the inherent risks in the storage and handling of nuclear waste as well as the safety problems experienced in accidents like Three Mile Island, Chernobyl and Fukishima. We would be better off investing in and subsidizing wind, solar, tidal, geothermal etc. for natioanl security as well as global environmetnal considerations. The problem is the oil, coal and gas producers and climate deniers wil not allow it even though polls demonstrate that 80% of Americans want the subsidies to to the oil companies to end,

@ Sarah H - there is NO such thing as "clean coal" and anyone who spouts that is just out and out lying. You want cheap? Solar is the thing and wind. Start up will be the cost of government giving them subsidies. Once they have the same subsidies as coal and oil, you will see the cheapest form of energy possible. This is just crazy. Our government (both sides of the aisle) are OWNED by big oil, big coal, big pharma and big chemical companies. We MUST do away with outside funding for elections. They are bought and paid for by the highest bidder and we ALL lose.

Bills need to be lowered and other forms of energy production to be taken. There are states with people suffering from the heat and it is unhuman that they can not pay a bill that puts their life at risk. There are also states without power that could have some releif if other sources where to be used as alternates. It is unhuman
