Demand Justice for Teenager Gang Raped by Five Firefighters

A small town in Virginia is the center of some serious and disturbing allegations. Five volunteer firefighters in Strasburg, Va., are accused of gang raping a teenage girl. To somehow make matters even worse, they posted footage of the incident on Snapchat for others to see.

Though the story is difficult to read, itís even more upsetting when you learn that none of the men involved have been charged with a crime or been let go by the local fire department despite the rape occurring many months ago.

Thatís why tens of thousands of Care2 community members are signing a petition to demand justice. Letís make sure Strasburg canít sweep this traumatic event under the rug and prosecutes these firefighters to the full extent of the law.

While no one should do the kind of things these men are being investigated for, firefighters are respected figures in their community. They have abused the publicís trust by raping a seventeen-year-old girl in three locations Ė one of those locations being the Strasburg Fire Department.

The one potential wrinkle to the story is that the girl did agree to have sex with four of the firefighters. Nevertheless, the sex still classifies as statutory rape because, as a minor, the girl was unable to legally consent, and seemingly was far too intoxicated to consent even if she were of age.

Even more importantly, these four men watched and did nothing to stop the fifth man, whom the girl did not want to have sex with, as he proceeded to rape her.

The teenís mother, whose name has not been released to protect the victimís privacy, says her inebriated daughter was ďintimidatedĒ by all five of the firefighters at the time of the alleged gang rape.

The identities of the firefighters still havenít been released either, since they have yet to be charged. Strasburg Mayor Richard Orndorff confirmed to the local media that they are still working at the fire department, but that could change if charges were pressed. That begs the question: how have charges still not been pressed, exactly?

The girlís mother has screenshots of the Snapshot video of her daughter being raped, making it all the more curious why the investigation is still ongoing and charges are pending. With that kind of evidence, prosecutors should be able to confidently push forward against the men for not only rape, but also disseminating pornographic content of an underage girl.

Letís make sure the state of Virginia knows we are all aware of this horrific event and will not allow justice to be denied. Sign this Care2 petition calling on the fire department to let the firefighters go and for the state to formally press charges against the men in the videos.

@Annabel Bedini--apparently you and Roxanne are the only ones who just didn't understand what the article was all about, because of punctuation. While Punctuation certainly is important, that is not what should be the primary disgust in this Article. It is the horrendous, vicious, Rape Attack on a teen age girl by 5 firefighters! I think that takes precedent over a punctuation mark!!

How anyone could do such a thing is beyond comprehension. I hope they're brought to justice.
