Dispatches From The War On Women: Science Is For Suckers

Welcome to Dispatches, your round-up of the latest news from the frontlines of the War on Women. Have a story from your state or an idea on how to push back? Share them here and fight back against the War on Women.

Republicans across the country have gone on a mission to hyper-regulate abortion providers as a means of running them out of business. In Missouri, Republicans are taking a different approach and passing legislation that forbids legislatures from regulating Crisis Pregnancy Centers–religiously affiliated “clinics” that are designed to dissuade women from having abortions by any means necessary.

Realizing that they kept losing on the science part of the reproductive health care arguments, the anti-choice Susan B. Anthony List opens their own research center to give them the “evidence” they’re looking for to support anti-abortion efforts.

A Louisiana Senate committee approved two anti-choice bills this week. One is a fetal pain bill that would ban abortions after 20 weeks and other would mandate women hear a fetal heartbeat before having an abortion.

With Republicans crafting their response strategy to a looming Supreme Court decision on the constitutionality of health care reform, women are letting the GOP we will not be denied health care.

Almost half of U.S. counties lack a single OBGYN, according to the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.

Don’t believe the hype: women didn’t lose almost all the jobs under President Obama.

Trafficking into the sex industry remains a huge problem, as this video demonstrates.

This should go without saying, but trans rights are a feminist issue.

Advertisers still seem to think that using the “dumb broad” schtick works.

Happy 8th birthday, marriage equality!

@HOward D.: She is using it as a slogan, to show how she sees the Repbulican party's views on the sciences, in ANY debate.

Research centers driven by "agenda" will produce the same kind of bogus "evidence" that the Creationist Museum, in Mo. or Tenn., I believe, does about dinosaurs and people cohabiting the planet together.
These people think that the God they imagine is only interested in goals, and the means are irrelevant (as a roadside Bible Church billboard in my area once proclaimed), so...it is just fine to lie for God.
Discrepancy? What? Where? How can that be? Impossible, God would not allow it.

As an external observer of Amerian culture and politics, there is almost nothing that shocks me anymore (though I remain appalled at a great deal).

When, however, I read the headline "Science is for suckers" coming from this otherwise mostly rational site, I got scared.

Thankfully, after reading the post, I've concluded that Ms. Pieklo was not offering some sort of pomo rant against the scientific enterprise. Just what the headline had to do with the post itself, however, remains a bit of a mystery.

Let me guess . . . you kept clicking the "add comment" button over and over because you thought nothing was happening the first time you clicked it?
