Donald Trump Does Not Deserve a State Park Named After Him

How did Trump’s name end up on a a state park?

In 1998 Donald Trump purchased 436 acres of undeveloped land about 50 miles north of New York City for $2 million. His intent was to turn it into a golf course, but local residents and politicians thought otherwise, so the golf course never materialized.

In 2006, Trump donated the land to the State of New York, which turned it into a state park. Although there was no official appraisal, Trump claimed that in only 8 years the land had risen in value from $2 million to $100 million, even though he had done nothing to improve it, and he used this $100 million as a tax write-off.

The park is now closed due to budget cuts, but Trump’s name remains displayed prominently at every park entrance, honoring a Trump scam.

Democratic State Senator Brad Hoylman wants to change that. Outraged by Trump’s reportedly racist comments about Haiti, El Salvador and African countries, the senator has introduced a bill to remove Trump’s name from the state park.

“This fresh outrage gives even greater impetus to strip his name from a New York state park,” Hoylman told BuzzFeed news. “There’s no hiding from Trump’s bigotry, but we New Yorkers can take a stand against his racism and divisiveness by removing his name from public buildings and parks.”

“Having a state park named after you is an honor that Donald Trump doesn’t deserve,” he added.

The team at Care2 fully agrees and has started a petition demanding that the U.S. Senate strip Trump’s name from the park.

The petition has already garnered almost 20,000 signatures from Care2 activists who recognize that Trump does not deserve to have a state park named after him.

The Trump administration’s record shows that they care nothing for the importance of preserving natural beauty for all Americans to enjoy.

Instead, EPA Administrator Scott Pruitt is busy tearing down environmental protections while doing all he can to benefit the Big Oil, Big Coal and Big Gas industries who seek to pollute and profit.

Working with Interior Secretary Zinke, Trump has put 24 National Monuments under fire and has already slashed the size of Grand Staircase-Escalante and Bears Ears National Monuments.

The last place Trump’s name belongs is at a state park.

By contrast, at least 20 U.S. schools chose to re-name themselves for Barack and Michelle Obama. One of the best known is an elementary school in Jackson, Mississippi, which used to bear the name of Confederate President Jefferson Davis but last year changed its name to Barack Obama Magnet International Baccalaureate Elementary School.

Paying tribute to Obama’s marine conservation efforts, scientists decided to name a maroon and gold fish found at the Papahănaumokuăkea Marine National Monument off Hawaii after the 44th President.

Other items named in honor of Obama include a parasite, a mountain, a spider, a gas station and a couple of roads.

These dedications, made as tributes to honor President Obama, stand in stark contrast to Donald J. Trump state park. Trump used this parkland in Westchester and Putnam Counties to lie his way into a tax write-off of $100 million.

It’s not just about Trump calling Haiti, El Salvador and countries in Africa “shithole” countries. Trump does not represent U.S. values and his name should not be on a state park.

Please sign the Care2 petition demanding that our lawmakers remove Trump’s name from this state park.

Naming a toxic dump after him would be more appropriate.

Petition signed. Blood pressure up. He is such a slime in my opinion, but he has definitely carried out campaign promises to "shake things up." He has very much accomplished that.
