Just When You Thought Roy Moore Couldn’t Get Any Worse

With about a month to go before voting day in Alabama’s high-profile Senate race, Republican candidate Roy Moore is caught up in another major scandal: having inappropriate sexual conduct with a minor.

Per a new report from the Washington Post, a woman, Leigh Corfman, said that when she was just 14, Moore – who was in his 30s at the time – inappropriately and non-consensually kissed, groped and undressed her. The newspaper also found three other women who say that Moore made advances on them when they were teenagers. Although they found his behavior creepy, particularly as they got older, they do not allege sexual misconduct beyond kissing.

Allegations of forcing sexual contact with a minor are at odds with the moral authority that Moore typically attempts to project. Moore is a Christian extremist who is popular with his Evangelical base for frequently ignoring the law, supposedly in the name of God.

Following these allegations, Moore’s team released a statement calling the accounts a “completely false and desperate political attack,” and suggesting it was the work of liberals attempting to sink his chances of winning the election.

Prior to the latest headlines, establishment Republicans have already been tiptoeing around Moore, pretending they know nothing of his views rather than being put in a position to have to defend them. As FiveThirtyEight writes, most big-name Republicans have said Moore must exit the race following the latest headlines… if the allegations are true, that is. Seriously, they’re pretty much all saying “if”:

Though that’s an easy way to avoid taking a firm stance, at least those congressmen and women aren’t pretending that forcing himself on a 14-year-old is appropriate. Instead of denying it, other members of the GOP have taken to defending the behavior.

Steve Bannon, who has returned to running ultra-conservative website Breitbart after a brief stint in the White House, ran an article excusing the allegations since Moore was “romantic” in his pursuit of these teenagers, even having written love poetry.

Even more egregiously, Alabama State Auditor Jim Ziegler called the report on his fellow Republican “much ado about nothing.” He then turned to the Bible for justification: “Take Joseph and Mary. Mary was a teenager and Joseph was an adult carpenter. They became parents of Jesus.”

Yes, a GOP official in Alabama really just pulled a WWJPD? [What Would Jesus’s Parents Do?] to explain away sexually assaulting a minor.

While the allegations against Moore are certainly disqualifying, the damned thing is they wouldn’t even need to be true for Alabama voters to have plenty of reasons not to vote for this homophobe. He’s a terrible judge who was suspended twice from the State Supreme Court for ignoring federal law. Oh, and he’s said all sorts of offensive things, too.

The problem is that the Alabama electorate is so solidly conservative that, despite the latest scandal, Moore is still almost certain to beat his opponent, Doug Jones. That means the majority of voters are going to look at a man who shows contempt for the Constitution, has been ousted from office twice before and is an alleged molester and say, “At least he’s not a Democrat,” as if that is somehow worse.

Brace yourself for one of the worst U.S. senators ever to take office in a matter of weeks.

When one chooses the lesser of two evils one is still choosing evil. What would Jesus do? He would not vote for Roy Moore!

They say that one's eyes are the windows to one's soul. Has anyone else noted that in recent film clips in the news Roy Moore is wearing dark sunglasses? Maybe he does not want anyone to look into his soul or notice that he is soulless.

It was reported earlier today that Steve Bannon of Breitbart sent reporters to Alabama in an attempt to discredit Roy Moore's accusers so that he could release the Crackers in support of Roy Moore. It was reported that the Breitbart boys found five others who collaborated the accounts of Moore's accusers.

Roy Moore autographs Bibles. Who does he think he is? Does anyone believe his political career will rise from the dead?

Roy Moore is the classical Republican hypocritical pervert, spouting off about "Christianity," while simultaneously dipping into the underwear of teenager girls (AKA pedophilia).

Today Roy Moore admitted that he does not have hemorrhoids though he has been a pain in the ass to the Republican Party. Does that make Moore a perfect a-hole?
