Make a Call for Chimps Today!

A number of animal protection organizations are calling on people to make a call for chimps being used in experimentation during National Call in Week for Chimps, and there’s still time to make a call.

First introduced in 2008, the Great Ape Protection Act has been reintroduced with bipartisan support in both the House of Representatives and the Senate as the Great Ape Protection and Cost Savings Act, now H.R. 1513 and S. 810.

The Act would phase out testing for about 1,000 chimpanzees currently in U.S. labs, along with retiring 500 federally owned chimpanzees to sanctuaries, which will save taxpayers approximately $300 million over the next ten years, while marking a milestone for animals by making this the first time a species has been exempted from testing in this country.

Additionally, it would end transport and breeding programs for all great apes intended for research, including chimpanzees, bonobos, gorillas, orangutans and gibbons, along with banning federally funded chimpanzee breeding programs.

The U.S. is now one of only two countries in the world to use chimpanzees in invasive experiments, despite what we know about their intelligence, sensitivity, complex emotional lives and social needs. According to the Animal Legal Defense Fund, more than $200 million has been spent on research using chimpanzees over the past decade.

Whether they’re captured from the wild, or bred in captivity, primates suffer from the effects of confinement without their psychological and behavioral needs being met, never mind the research part, which can include prolonged immobilization, sensory deprivation, social isolation and invasive surgery, among other horrors.

TAKE ACTION!

Please take a minute to make a call to your member of Congress today for asking them to co-sponsor this historic piece of legislation that will put an end to experiments on chimps and save taxpayers millions of dollars annually, and sign the petition below.

This has to be stopped! Most civilized countries on earth have forbidden the use of primates in labs. All countries should follow!

Agree with Jammie W below. Maybe the 1% who voted chimps should be used may like to donate their self to these experiments then maybe we would get a true reading for a change!

I WILL NEVER UNDERSTAND WHO ANYONE BELIEVES THAT ANOTHER LIFE IS NOT WORTH CARE, CONCERN, PROTECTION AND FREE FROM ABUSE AND KILLING. I WOULD JUST LOVE TO KNOW HOW ANYONE, AND I MEAN FROM RICH TO POOR WOULD FEEL HAVING TO WITNESS YOUR LOVED ONE TORTURED JUST FOR THE SAKE OF SELLING A PRODUCT, JUST TO EXPERIMENT, OR JUST FOR THE SAKE OF KILLING AND ABUSING. HMMMMMM! IMAGINE THAT YOUR MOTHER,YOUR DAUGHTER, YOUR SON, YOUR FATHER, YOUR GRANDFATHER, YOUR GRANDMOTHER, YOUR UNCLE, YOUR ANT YOUR SISTER, YOUR BROTHER AND WHOMEVER YOU LOVED BE TORTURED JUST LIKE THESE INNOCENT LIVES CALLED MONKEYS ARE.......GO AHEAD PICTURE IT SCARED, CAN'T TAKE SEEING THIS HAPPEN...THEN WHY DO YOU DO THIS TO MONKEYS AND THEIR FAMILIES!!!! WHY....IN GOD'S NAME STOP KILLING AND BE SO HENIOUS IN MIND ACTION AND SPIRIT.....YOU ARE THE ANIMAL WHO KILLS FOR NO REASON.... NOT THE MONKEYS...BECOME A BETTER PERSON AND KNOW THAT YOU WILL BE REWARDED....GOD IS WATCHING!!!
TAKE CARE ALL!

STOP experimenting on these poor chimps. This is CRUEL AND INHUMANE. Chimps are very intelligent animals, I think we should let them experiment on humans. Turn about is fair play, don't you think? Animals WHERE NOT put here to experiment on, for entertainment or profit. STOP TORTURING ANIMALS!!!!!!!!!!

Signed, especially because experimentation with primates goes from "Important" research as cancer to stupid ones as whether eating at night makes you fatter or not.

Volunteers could be used in most cases, but it's easier and allows you space to be more "ruthless" to experiment on animals, simply because they can't fight for their rights or scream abuse.
