Men With Loaded Rifles Intimidate Moms Gathered At Gun Safety Rally

Written by Igor Volsky

Several men with assault rifles and hand guns crashed a Mayor’s Against Illegal Guns National Day to Demand Action event in Indianapolis, Indiana on Thursday and stood silently as the state chapter of Moms Demand Action held a rally in favor of limiting the availability of military style weapons and universal background checks.

At least two or three men showed up at the rally site before the event began and engaged in a discussion about gun regulations with the group, two participants in the action told ThinkProgress. The armed men — who were later joined by another man carrying a hand gun and a woman who runs Indiana Moms Against Gun Control — insisted that they had a right to carry the loaded weapons:

Watch local news coverage of the event:

A member of Moms Demand Action said that she felt unsettled by their presence and said that the organizers would have to think twice before holding another event, particularly one where children could be present.

Members of Moms Demand Action also attended an event at the White House today, during which President Obama called on Congress to pass sensible gun regulations and urged the nation to remember the tragedy at Sandy Hook Elementary School.

I wonder whether they'd be greater outcry if it was armed women intimidating men?

I agree that guns should have been left at home, but humans become violent, cause with or without guns.

@ Sydney M......that would be stereotyping and reducing them to uneducated animals and maybe you need to do that to try and fit them neatly into one of your stereotyping labelled boxes but overall you would mis-label most of them because not many folks sit neatly in one type of box.You seem to tend to believe a high education makes one smart,if that was the case then all these educated folks would act as smart as some of their degrees,a GED is nothing to be ashamed of and those people should be proud they went back and stuck it out.Experience in life is something not very easily taught thru a text book. Both the for/against guns do things to piss the other off,its just one big game.......i will agree the guns should of been left at home, but so should of most the kids.I will agree guns do cause deaths but guns dont make people violent overall,it would make sense to tackle why people become violent, cause with or without guns people will still be just as violent. And i aint against woman being who they want to be,but i am against double standards.

Let me guess ..... these same armed men also drive pick-up trucks with over-sized tires, won't sit directly next to a male friend in a movie theater, particularly enjoy boxing and wrestling on t.v. (when they aren't watching Nascar or Monster-Truck Rallies), have a GED (at best), believe a woman's place is in the home (and specifically in the kitchen), don't agree with a woman's right to choose and believe homosexuality is a choice. So, am I on the right track with this ...?

...and also include silencers and "any other weapon" (AOW), such as disguised or improvised firearms. Acquisition of these weapons is subject to prior approval of the Attorney General, and federal registration is required for possession. Generally, a $200 tax is imposed upon each transfer or making of any Title II weapon.

As for those men intimidating the women and children at the event, these were unarmed women many with their children with them. For you to sit there and say the men were not intimidating just their weapons were is like asking if you are an obnoxious SOB or do your words just make you out to be an SOB, either way you are an SOB and those men were there to intimidate those unarmed women and children, big brave men...LMAO@U. Stick it in your ear there buddy!!!

We are not talking about the Merriam Webster's definition nor even the Small Arms Identification and Operation Guide definition of what assault weapons are...duh!!! We are talking about the classification of assault weapon under federal law, the Federal Assault Weapons Ban (AWB) a subtitle of the Violent Crime Control and Law Enforcement Act of 1994, which encompasses all semi-automatic weapons with the characteristics of an fully automatic assault rifle. the weapon does not have the capability of being fully automatic, just the fact that these weapons have the looks of an assault rifle that can be fully automatic is enough to warrant it being classified as an assault weapon. If these weapons actually have the operational features such as 'full-auto' changes the classification of those weapons to Type II weapons.

Title II weapons (or NFA firearms after the original law that legally regulates them, the National Firearms Act of 1934) are certain firearms, explosive munitions, and other devices. Any violation of the NFA is a felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison.[3] Per the Summary of Gun Control Act of 1968. Title II of the Gun Control Act of 1968 is a revision of the National Firearms Act of 1934, and pertains to machine guns, short or "sawed-off" shotguns and rifles, and so-called "destructive devices" (including grenades, mortars, rocket launchers, large projectiles, and other heavy ordnance) and also include silencers and "any other weapon" (AOW), suc

David E says "One man says he knows people that hunt with those rifles and he is certainly correct. The other says his rifle is not about hunting and that he has a right to that rifle and does not have to justify that right, and whether you like it or not, without a Constitutional amendment he is right as well."

I and the very liberal SCOTUS Justice say bullcrap:

The Second Amendment rights are not guarranteed for all weapons or ammo:
“Like most rights, the right secured by the Second Amendment is not unlimited,” Justice Antonin Scalia, explained. In a sentence the NRA and many gun-rights extremists apparently missed, Scalia wrote that the Second Amendment is “not a right to keep and carry any weapon whatsoever in any manner whatsoever and for whatever purpose.”
In 2008 the Supreme Court held that the Second Amendment did secure the right of law-abiding, responsible adults to have handguns in their homes for protection. Yet the court went out of its way to acknowledge that most forms of gun regulation remain constitutionally permissible.

I hardly find any protestation against guns can be called KNEE JERK when there are daily gun deaths and tragedies after tragedies going on in the US with massacres of innocents. Maybe some knee jerk reactions are long overdue. The prime knowledge one needs of guns is that they result in deaths. Any other discourse, such as nomenclature of guns eg "assault weapons, automatic or semiautomatic weapons" is simply verbage thrown about to muddy the issue. Over 1,060,000 gun deaths in the US since 1980 is a disgrace. Any other nation ie one with common sense, would have put a stop to this nonsense years ago but in the US it seems private rights trump public safety. That's like saying it's my right to drive drunk even if I kill somebody. NO, it is not your right to drive drunk. Don't come back with 2nd amendment crap either because that was outdated 50 years after it was instituted. The "Injuns" and British aren't going to go on the warpath any more.
