Strangely, We May Get Lucky That Trump Is Terrible in Every Way

Believe it or not, we may get lucky that the president is an unfortunate combination of incompetent, evil, traitorous, dangerous, narcissistic, lazy, stupid and corrupt.

I realize that sounds ridiculous, but hear me out.

Any one or few of those traits would be dreadful for the country. Plus, a president with a more limited set of faults would almost certainly be able to accomplish a lot more by not getting in his own way.

As it stands, Republicans, who have control of all three branches of government, have pretended that they can’t see the obvious when it comes to Donald Trump. They’re sticking to a strategy of chiding his bad behavior and unrestrained impulses as isolated events.

However, we’ve reached a point where the totality of Trump’s character and inabilities is no longer in question by the most generous stretch. Never mind that a larger portion of Americans should have seen Trump for what he is prior to the election – Americans aren’t ignorant to the nonsense occurring in the White House.

Over the weekend, Trump tweeted “Throughout my life, my two greatest assets have been mental stability and being, like, really smart.” He also referred to himself as a “very stable genius,” seemingly oblivious to the fact that a very stable genius would never use those words to convince anyone of that.

This same man, mind you, is casually tweeting threats of nuclear war with a similarly “very stable” North Korean dictator. If even Trump’s own aides can’t prevent him from sending out these unflattering and/or dangerous messages, how are the American people to trust his sanity and their own safety?

At this point, Trump’s complete unfitness is an open secret. Even members of the GOP who have made a habit of finding excuses for the man must have their limits on what they’ll tolerate. They may be willing to forgive some of the president’s worst qualities, but they aren’t indefinitely going to want to have to forgive as many as he’s openly putting on display.

Failing that, they have to at least strategically be concerned about the blowback they’ll face for covering for a man this baldly unworthy of this position. Is it worth the political capital to defend a man from a collusion investigation if he also happens to be hapless and disloyal? Is it worth it to pretend he’s a great leader if he’s actively provoking nuclear attacks against this country?

In that sense, we might actually get lucky that the president is an extraordinary combination of terribleness. Anything short of that, evidently, is not sufficient grounds for Republicans to condemn one of their own. Clearly, it’s going to require the president to be the worst in every way imaginable to get the boot, and there’s no one more deserving than Trump to put that theory to the test.

Hopefully he’ll get a justified and premature boot from the White House, but if he doesn’t, the United States will have to take a good, long look at our existing political system and just how the powers that be were able to get away with never taking any action against this erratic president.

His continual NEED to rave 'reviews' of his 'performance' is an obvious sign of a disturbed mind. The only good thing I can see about trump is that he is his own worst enemy. Unfortunately it is taking time to document all of his comments, and action. I am looking forward to seeing a televised senate hearing on him. I do hope that happens.

pam w What you are is a sellout and a phony, like Rhoberta, who just covers up all the corruption of the Democrats, who are just as corrupt and corporate owned as the Republicans, and cheated Bernie Sanders out of his primary, and caused this fraud Trump to win. As I said before, the Democrats kicked all the progressives out of the party, and are blocking Bernie Sanders from having any power, so they can continue their corruption, and make millions from Wall Street and corporations. If the Democrats supported slavery, you'd defend them. We get it. You're sick like Rhoberta. Just please stop posting your bigotry.

Rhoberta E First of all I left a link, that you can read, all about Nancy Pelosi's son going to that crook Trump's Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida and partying with billionaire crooks like Trump. You need to research it, and I don't have to give you a time line for anything. Who cares if they were registered Democrats. Democrats or their children shouldn't be hanging around this crook Trump and his criminal billionaire friends. Read the link, and educate yourself, and stop making excuses for corrupt Democrats like Nancy Pelosi who is very wealthy, and refuses to support Medicare for All, because she in corrupt like the Republicans.

Steve W. seems to be a Republican and a Trump supporter. But Steve's avatar - fish shape with DARWIN inside - seems to indicate that Steve is not a creationist. The 2012 Republican presidential contenders all said that they were creationists. So I wonder where else Steve deviates from the fundamentalist party line.

Shelley w asks, " ... When have the democrats passed tax breaks for the middle class? ..." My recollection is that President Obama and the Democrats passed a tax break for the middle class in 2010. And they did not take away any of the tax deductions for the middle class.

(Rhoberta....''brian f.'' is a TROLL. He says things which get our attention. He loves the spotlight...negative or not. He probably never got enough attention from his mother. This is the kind of person who will do anything (positive or negative) that gets him a spotlight, and the more you respond to his pathetic nonsense...the more often he'll repeat himself. He feels important because you're talking to him. Think on that.)
