Thousands Demand Justice for Pit Bull Who Died After Being Thrown From Minivan

He was already suffering before someone threw him out of a minivan. And soon after, he died in an emergency vet clinic. This American pit bull was between four and six years old when someone abandoned him in late September.

Now, the Humane Society is offering up to a $5,000 reward for identifying the culprit. Meanwhile, a Care2 petition with over 100,000 signatures is calling on local officials for justice.

“This unfortunate animal didn’t survive — and the animal abuser is still at large,” the petition reads. “We believe that a larger Seattle police effort would increase the likelihood that this killer is ultimately brought to justice. Animal cruelty is a serious crime — and needs to be treated as such.”

Seattle Animal Shelter executive director Ann Graves agrees. “This is a very disturbing case of callousness and an act of animal cruelty,” she said in a press release.

The Animal Legal Defense Fund lists Washington as having some of the best animal cruelty laws in the United States.

The state prohibits cities from banning specific breeds, like American pit bulls, or requires dogs to be proven dangerous beyond their breed alone. A new law requires owners who tie up their dogs for extended periods of time need to give them adequate access to shelter, food and water, or face penalties.

At the same time, animal abuse isn’t always taken as seriously as it should be. But animal cruelty and domestic violence are closely connected. Plus, animals deserve safe, healthy lives for themselves.

We need laws that protect animals, and that legislation must be enforced.

Take Action!

Sign this Care2 petition urging Seattle Chief of Police Kathleen O’Toole and other officials to take this glaring case of animal abuse seriously.

And if you want to make a difference on an issue you find deeply troubling, you too can create a Care2 petition, and use this handy guide to get started. You’ll find Care2’s vibrant community of activists ready to step up and help you.

People are horrible. I keep hearing more and more of what the race is capable of doing and it just horrifies me that the world is heading in that direction. Evil is now commonplace and acceptable.

This petition is already signed. It is disgusting and I really hope they get the one who did it and punish this person to the fullest extend of law! I've posted a different petition about this atrocious cause, which is free to be signed here:
