Wisconsin Republican Believes Candidate’s Husband Is Behind Her Campaign

Some men just seem to find it difficult to believe that a woman is capable of doing anything of her own free will.  Wisconsin Senator Scott Fitzgerald is one of those men.  Fitzgerald, the Republican senate leader who is being challenged by Democrat Lori Compas in one of many recall elections next month, has decided that Compas’s campaign really isn’t her idea, but is being orchestrated by union leaders and her husband, instead, telling the local paper, “I don’t for one minute believe she is the organizing force behind this whole thing,” and calling her a “Pollyanna.”

Compas, who the paper declared was “audibly stunned” when they told her of Fitzgerald’s remarks, eventually brushed them off as part of his general dismissal that women can have independent thought and action. “That is pretty insulting, but it does seem in keeping with his general views on women,” she said. “He doesn’t seem to have a lot of respect for them. That’s OK; he can keep underestimating me.”

But showing she has a sense of humor as well, Compas’s family did a little reenactment of Fitzgerald’s version of events, which you can watch below.

I get the feeling that he is catering to the extreme population that will believe it and vote, which is something that has happened many times already. It's not about this being the year 2012 and that it should go without saying that women can indeed be as competent or more competent in comparable positions including government. But when a presidential election for an entire state with more than a million qualified voters gets decided by roughly 5000 people that actually participate, those that have extreme views seem to be the kind of people that politicians that have been demonstrating bizarre views are catering to.

The only solution is that people actually go out to vote, so make sure that all your friends and family that are qualified to vote actually vote and are aware of the political issues currently taking place so they are able to make the best choice in this election. To me is a no-brainer who should go, but if people don't vote, we will end up seeing the people that no ones to see elected into positions of power hinged on statements that attack women or people people based on their identity or where they come from, while catering to corporations.

I think Fitzgerald should be studied in detail by a competent genetic lab. We've spent over a hundred years grinding fossilized bones and teeth to get actual DNA from an archaic Homo erectus to sequence their genome. And now a live one presents himself.

Why is it I think that if Fitzgerald read the preceding paragraph, the only word that would register is "Homo"? Ah well, you can taken the primitive hominid out of the Pliocene, but you can't make them less an evolutionary dead end.

Good for you Ms. Compas... win or loose, you win. Fight the good fight. Rumor has it Fitzgerald had to ask his Mom if he could go out and play!

Heard her on the radio this morning and she seemed more intelligent than most male candidates. Why is it that slandering women is the go-to position for republicans? How can anyone vote for a party that is aimed at enslaving women and that includes their own daughters?

That was a fairly insulting statement to make about her. I wonder if voters will care that he was so massively disrespectful. One can oppose a candidate without resorting to juvenile insults.

Steve R., the true meaning of a right to work state is one that can fire you for ANY reason EVEN because you are close to retirement.

The true meaning of a right to work state means the LORDS own the company and the SERFS do the work. How sad that people like you don’t take the time to study a little history. Unions have done more good for working people around the WORLD than any other group. When the unions are gone we can ALL call ourselves Serfs. As the labor rights and protections are taken the wages go down and the benefits disappear. You really are a Corporate Puppet!!!!

@ Lynda
Where in the article or video did it say that her husband is a Republican Candidate?

If you are privy to additional knowledge about this situation that I do not have then I will say I am sorry in advance but otherwise...

WHERE THE HE*L DO YOU GET OFF!?!?!?!?!?! Honestly it is comments like yours that make me question feminism and liberalism and if they are even the right place for my efforts and loyalties! What a condescending, judgmental and just plain nasty way to voice your opinion! It is mean and nasty not to mention ignorant people like you spouting their mouths off all the time that are almost as big of a problem as the big business and corrupt politicians.

Enjoy sitting on your perfect pedestal in your glass house. I hope you end up cross eyed from all the "looking down your nose" you do at the rest of us.

Fitzgerald: Running for Idiot?!? Sure sounds like it and he would win, hands down.
