10 Smoothie Ingredients for Weight Loss

Smoothies can help you lose weight by controlling hunger. However, adding the wrong ingredients to your smoothie can cause unwanted weight gain.

You probably know that adding sugar to your smoothie is a bad idea. What you may not know is that adding certain ingredients to smoothies can make them more weight loss-friendly.

Below are healthy smoothie ingredients you should add to your smoothies for weight loss and to improve overall health.

10 Smoothie Ingredients for Weight Loss

Chia Seeds are a Healthy Weight Loss Ingredient for Smoothies

1. Chia Seeds

Chia seeds are the perfect ingredient for thickening smoothies. The best part is they are loaded with protein and fiber, which will keep you full.

Instead of adding chia seeds directly into the smoothie, soak them in water for 10 minutes to form gel, then toss them into the blender. One or two tablespoons are all you need to make your smoothie thicker and more filling.

Smoothie Ingredients for Weight Loss: Cayenne Pepper

2. Cayenne Pepper

Cayenne pepper will add a little kick to your smoothie and boost your metabolism. Research shows that this spice boosts metabolism and enhances weight loss.

The next time you are making a smoothie, sprinkle cayenne pepper powder into it. You can also use fresh cayenne in your smoothies, if you prefer.

Matcha Powder is a great weight loss ingredient for your smoothies.

3. Matcha Green Tea Powder

Most people know that drinking green tea can boost metabolism. However, very few people take advantage of matcha green tea powder.

This powder is safe and healthy – it’s made from fresh green tea leaves. You will get all the benefits of green tea and fiber, too. Add one teaspoon to your next smoothie.

Protein Powder

4. Protein Powder

Did you know that protein is the most filling macronutrient? Adding protein powder to your smoothie will keep you feeling full.

Don’t feel left out if you’re vegan. Plant-based protein powder can also control hunger. When choosing protein powder, make sure it does not contain artificial sweeteners and other unhealthy ingredients.

Ceylon cinnamon may help regulate glucose levels.

5. Cinnamon

This spice is popular among diabetics because research shows it helps regulate blood sugar levels. Keeping your blood sugar levels balanced can control your cravings, and ultimately make it easier to lose weight.

Add an eighth to a quarter teaspoon of cinnamon to your smoothie, and blend as usual.

Apple cider vinegar with brewed tea, natural remedies and cures

6. Apple Cider Vinegar

Apple cider vinegar may not help you drop pounds effortlessly as some people would have you believe. However, some studies show that adding it to your diet can help you lose an extra pound or two if you maintain healthy eating habits and exercise regularly.

Note that drinking too much apple cider vinegar has negative side effects. Take a maximum of two tablespoons a day.

Use xanthan gum to thicken your smoothies.

7. Xanthan Gum

Xanthan gum is a great smoothie thickener, and it can help increase your fiber intake. A tablespoon of Xanthan gum contains seven grams of fiber – about 25 percent of recommended daily intake – and it’s very low in calories.

Note that Xanthan gum is a natural carbohydrate, so you don’t have to worry about unhealthy ingredients. One teaspoon is enough to make your smoothies thicker and more filling. You can buy it online or in a health food store near you.

8. Avocado

You’re totally missing out if you’re not adding avocado to your smoothies. This fruit is nutrient-dense and it can help you lose weight because of its fiber content.

Add a small slice of avocado to your smoothie to make it thicker and more satisfying. Avocado is high in calories, however, so adding too much can cause undesired weight gain.

Kale is a great ingredient for weight loss to add to your smoothies.

9. Leafy Greens

Spinach, kale, and lettuce may not make your smoothie tastier but they’ll definitely make it more filling. If you want to increase fiber and nutrient intake, start adding leafy greens to your smoothies.

Start with just a small amount of greens, and add more as your palate acclimates to the “green” taste they bring to the mix.

10. Strawberries

If you’re hesitant to add leafy greens to your smoothies because of their taste, combine them with strawberries. They’ll add sweetness to your smoothies, along with a healthy dose of fiber and antioxidants. Feel free to add raspberries, blueberries, or blackberries, too.

Which of these weight loss ingredients will you start adding to your smoothies?
