12 Ways to Become More Confident This Year

This year has still only just begun! Taking a look ahead, are you feeling confident about what is coming (or what could be)? If not, re-evaluate your approach to the major areas in your life to see if doing things differently could lead to a more happy and confident future. Here are a few places to start.

Love Life

1) Don’t be afraid to ask for what you want. Happy relationships are the result of excellent communication—and this includes communicating our wants and needs. Let your SO know what you need in a partnership and how they can help meet that need.

2) Ditch the losers. This cannot be stated loudly or frequently enough: follow your gut. If you get a feeling that someone is not going to be respectful of you or your boundaries, kick ‘em to the curb and don’t look back.

3) Follow your freaking heart. Your love life goals may look drastically different than what your family and friends expect for you. Get in touch with what will actually make you happy and follow those dreams.

4) Practice saying no. Stop taking on extra projects and responsibilities that aren’t absolutely necessary, that aren’t fulfilling and that are creating burnout. Get used to saying “No, I can’t do that.”

5) Give feedback. Upset with the way management performs? Let them know how they can do things better. Dealing with a work environment that impedes your performance? Speak up and offer ideas for how the situation could be improved.

6) Pursue a new beginning. If you’ve been stuck in a rut and daydreaming about a better career, take a deep breath and dive into finding something else.

7) Get out of the house. And, while you’re out there, go to new and unfamiliar places! Stretch your comfort zone to include new experiences and you just might find new and exciting friendships along the way.

8) Build the friendships you already have. The same rules apply for your love life: communication is key. Get to know your besties better.

9) Drop those you don’t need. If some companionships are being held together for reasons that don’t serve you well, it’s okay to part ways with a friend.

Loving Yourself

10) Dare to love the skin you are in. Fight back against b.s. beauty standards and love yourself for the awesome creature you are.

11) Approach self-care from new angles. Want to feel stronger? Try out a training program that scares you a little. Want to treat your gut better? Jump into new meal planning and recipe ideas. Want to de-stress? Finally open up that meditation app and see what happens.

12) Practice self-gratitude. Gratitude journals are wonderful tools for building a positive mental attitude. But we often neglect reflecting on how much we do for ourselves throughout the day. Each day, write down at least one thing about yourself that makes you feel grateful.

I'm the least confidant and most confidant person I know. When your confidence hits rock bottom you're pretty much like "Whatever, I don't care."
