5 Easy Ways to Get Your “Beach Body” Ready for Summer!

Summer is creeping right around the corner and that means itís beach season! Fun in the sun, toes in the sand and wind in your hairÖ itís an exciting time. But, to properly prepare for the festivities, we must make sure our beach bodies are in tip-top shape. Instead of buying into the b.s. messages about how our bodies need to LOOK a certain way before we enjoy our summer, here are some more important things to consider before packing up your beach bag:

1. Pick the right sunscreen

Our precious skin works hard every day to protect us from everyday environmental risks. Treat it right by choosing a sunscreen thatís best for you. This might mean opting for lotions specifically designed for sensitive skin or choosing a waterproof brand that will hold up if you take a dip in the water. Alternatively, picking out a coral reef-friendly sunscreen is also very important to protect our precious wildlife. Also: if you do get burned while lounging in the sun, be sure to soothe your skin properly!

2. Select the proper sunglasses

It isnít just our skin that soaks up the sunís rays – our eyes need protection, too. Make sure your peepers are protected! A good rule of thumb is to search for shades that offer 99-100% UVA/UVB protection. It doesnít hurt to pick a pair that strikes you as super-cute, too.

3. Find a suit that makes you feel fabulous

How do you know if the suit youíre trying on is right for your body? Easy: try on the suit, ask yourself if you like how you feel. If the answer is ďyes,Ē then the suit is right for your body! Try to avoid internalizing the messages from advertisements and articles that attempt to convince you that your body isnít worthy of certain suits – every body is a beach body and every person should feel carefree and fabulous while wearing one.

4. Pump up the positive self-talk

It can be a challenge to avoid those body-shaming messages, but focusing on positive self-talk can be a big help. Not only can you try to correct negative thoughts that might cross your mind by replacing them with reflections on how awesome you are, but friends can help check each other, too! If your pal makes a negative comment about their body, chime in and remind them of everything you love about them.

5. Eat food that bring you joy

The types of foods that are best for beach body prep are: whatever the hell foods make you happy to eat. Wanna pack all the snacks in your beach bag? Go for it! Prefer to stick to lighter fare so you can practice cartwheels in the sand without feeling like youíre going to puke? Right on! Nourish your body, mind and soul with food that leaves you feeling full of bliss.
