6 Juice Recipes for Allergy Relief

While most people think of spring as allergy season, autumn can be just as bad for many allergy sufferers thanks to ragweed and mold that is common this time of year. Fortunately, when it comes to allergies, food really is the best medicine. Here are some of my favorite allergy-busting juice recipes to give you some relief.

Vegetable and fruit mix blended drink

Carrot-Ginger Anti-Inflammatory Juice

Serves 1 to 2

Ginger is a potent anti-inflammatory that helps take down swelling and alleviate sinus pain. Carrots are an excellent source of beta carotene needed for a healthy immune system and mucus membranes.  Combined they make an excellent juice to help keep allergy symptoms at bay.

6 large carrots (remove tops)
1 apple
1 to 2 inch piece of ginger, depending on how spicy you like your juice

Pass all ingredients through a juicer.  Drink immediately.

Freshly Squeezed Grapefruit Juice

Citrus Sensation

Serves 2

The Citrus Sensation gives your body a serious vitamin C boost, which is essential to help heal overtaxed adrenal glands, which are usually an underlying factor in allergies.

2 oranges
2 grapefruit
˝ lemon
1 cup water

Juice all citrus ingredients in a citrus juicer.  Alternatively, peel and juice in a standard juicer.  Add water and drink immediately.

Vegetable juice

Antihistamine Juice

Serves 1 to 2

The beets in this juice contain potent compounds known as anthocyanins which not only give foods their purplish-red color, also gives them natural anti-inflammatory properties that help reduce the nasal, sinus and other inflammation linked to allergic reactions.

3 carrots
˝ cucumber
˝ beet with greens

Juice all ingredients in a juicer.  Drink immediately.

Papaya smoothie, selective focus. Detox, diet food.

Enzyme Power Healing Smoothie

Serves 1 to 2

Not only is this smoothie delicious and satisfying, it is an amazing healer.  Papaya, pineapple and ripe bananas are loaded with enzymes that help digestion, break down toxins, fat and inflammation in the body.

Bromelain in pineapple is an excellent all-natural anti-inflammatory that helps heal the gut, a precursor to many allergy symptoms.  Papain, an enzyme that is plentiful in papaya, breaks down protein molecules in the blood, including inflammation that is linked to allergies.

Enjoy this smoothie as an occasional treat rather than a daily beverage since the pineapple and papaya have a lot of natural sugars that when drunk regularly can have the reverse effect.

1 cup chopped papaya
1 cup chopped fresh pineapple (not canned)
4 ice cubes
water to blend to desired smoothie consistency.

The Decongester

Serves 1

I call this juice The Decongester because both pineapple and ginger help to alleviate inflammation and promote gut health, while the ginger adds some spice that helps clear sinuses.

˝ pineapple, outer skin removed (juice the core as well as the flesh)
1 inch piece of ginger

Pass all ingredients through a juicer.  Dilute with pure water to taste.  Drink immediately.

Lemonade Delight

Serves 4

Most bottled lemonade is full of sugar, the consumption of which is a factor for aggravating allergies.  But you won’t miss it once you taste this delicious and super-healthy version.

Unlike most sweetened lemonade, thanks to the naturally sweet herb stevia, this lemonade keeps blood sugar levels stable. It tastes so good even kids will love it.

5 lemons
1-˝ tsp. liquid stevia (approximately 90 drops) or more for a sweeter lemonade
6 cups pure water
Ice cubes for serving
Fresh mint (optional, as garnish)

Juice the lemons using a wooden or ceramic lemon juicer (or use an electric citrus juicer if you have one). Pour the juice into a large pitcher.

Add the stevia and top with water. Stir to mix.

Pour over ice and add mint leaves (if using) to garnish. Serve.

Juicing takes away a lot of the good. The fiber and nutrition if you ask me. I used to be big on juicing until I learned otherwise. These foods could be used in other ways. eat some of the fruit and make tea with the ginger??
