7 Unique Handmade Mother’s Day Gifts

Mother’s day is coming up soon (May 13th) and while some of us get an A for preparation, others (ahem!) often procrastinate when it comes to gift buying. I know that my mom, like many moms out there, always tells me not to worry because she doesn’t need anything. “No, really, I don’t! Don’t buy me anything!” But the truth is, need it or not, your mom deserves to be pampered at least one day a year. So while new house shoes are awesome if hers are wearing out, we’d love to offer seven handmade gifts that really are something special. Feel good about sending your money into the hands of real artists and crafters. Besides, JCPenney can probably do without your hard-earned money this year.

As Amanda Galvin knows, many of us are living far from mom. But don’t despair! You can show her you miss her and love her much by presenting her with this handmade decoupage collage made on heavy 8 1/2 x 11″ paper. The colors and heart locations are up to you and can include several people in your family – up to 5! The frame is not included, but could be easy enough to do on your own. $12.50.

There is a surplus of upcycled, handmade and customized mom jewelry on Etsy. One of our favorites is this silverware bracelet from SpoonerZ. For $60, you get a decorative spoon ends bracelet adorned with any name, date or saying you’d like. It can fit between 2-5 family members (dogs and cats included!) and you can also custom order a “plus” bracelet for 6-8 names. You’ll also get to choose your font style and wrist size. $60.

No matter how much of an angel you claim to be, chances are your mom puts up with a lot of crap from you. Remind her to let loose and have a glass of vino with this 20 oz. etched goblet that’s perfect for mother’s day. Pair it with a bottle of her favorite wine and show her you’re really onto something. Scissor Mill, $18.50.

Got a bookworm for a mother? Why not indulge her favorite hobby by buying her an awesome new novel and slipping this hand-stamped keepsake inside. Pearlie Girl also accepts custom orders. $24.

Maybe you’re crunched for money this year and your loving and understanding mother will be receiving a card this year (and all your love forever, of course). Why not make it a good one? Vixens Empire has both funny and sweet cards for whatever mood you’re feeling and mom might appreciate most. $3.50 each.

Does your mom love getting pampered with beauty products but you often aren’t sure which exact item will fit the docket? Consider buying mom a gift basket chock full of awesome goodies. This awesome basket from Rtisan contains milk bath soap, coconut soap, lavender soap, hydrating spray, flavored lip balm (your choice of 7 flavors), natural loofa, lip scrub and a 4 oz. tub of either summer watermelon or tart graan apple dead sea scrub. $55.

Have a foodie for a momma? Perhaps she has a sweet tooth as well? Stacks Cookies are made with organic ingredients (and love!) in LA. You have the choice of 6 amazing flavors (lemon honey tea cookies, anyone?) which are placed in two mason jars and thoughtfully wrapped with a mother’s day message. All this for $26 (including shipping)!

i would have to agree with Sarah M. I thought there were instructions on how to make the gifts...so it's a matter of buying someone else's handmade gifts...gotcha! i ended up just going shopping with my mother to get her whatever it was that she needed.

Some fun products; I especially like #6. But the title of this article is a bit misleading...I have to admit I was expecting some craft instructions or something, and I'm disappointed.
