Do Siamese Cats Make Good Pets?

Contrary to how it’s often represented in media (as aloof or detached), the Siamese cat is actually one of the sweetest, most playful breeds around. Elegant and creative, it’s no wonder so many love them. Here are just a few of the qualities that make Siamese cats great pets.

1. They’re playful.

The Siamese breed is known for its sociable, affectionate nature. Loving, cheerful and affectionate, they tend to be truly trusting of people, showing their love by bonding strongly with the people in their lives.

2. They’re gorgeous.

While not an accessory, the Siamese is about as chic as it gets. Particularly striking is their pair of long, wide-set ears atop a wedge-shaped head adorned with striking almond-shaped eyes in a lovely shade of sapphire.

3. They’re eager.

Playful and super smart, Siamese cats have a seemingly unending well of energy. They need lots of interaction to keep them from getting bored, but if you give them the attention they need they’ll love you forever!

4. They’ll chat with you.

Siamese cats are extremely vocal breeds. They absolutely love to vocalize and will chatter away in their sweet, low-pitched voices as you go about your day. Even more fun is the conversation that arises when you talk back!

5. They’ll entertain you for hours.

Siamese can self-entertain for ages if presented with enough mental stimulation. Toys, puzzles, scratching posts…you name it! They will play for hours, showing you just how smart a Siamese can be.

Considering Siamese cat ownership?

Start your search at your local animal shelter! It’s not unheard of for rescue groups to come across pedigreed Siamese in their rounds, so if you don’t find one right away, keep looking.

Not having any luck? Consider asking local veterinarians for recommendations on how to find a Siamese cat. They may be able to refer you to a rescue group that specializes in Siamese or have an idea of some who need adopting.

Tut tut Care2, why encourage breed specific when soooo many cats are euthanised every day. Forget the breed, go to the shelter, you’ll know the one for you. Or perhaps a bonded pair.

Never breed or buy while shelter pets die.
