Own Your Creative Genius

Do you feel called to give birth to something within you the way I described here? Are you trying to think your way through something you just need to feel?

Yeah. Me too. Thatís why I spent this weekend back in my art studio, which has been too long neglected. When I find myself stuck in some part of my life — or when Iím having a hard time making a tough decision — I paint. Suddenly, my hand is swirling and my mind is slowing down and I find myself in a sort of meditation that I think some call ďthe zone.Ē

It all sounds very mystical, doesnít it? Something reserved for monks and professional artists. But itís not. Itís right there — completely accessible to you — any time, any place.

Because your creative genius lies within you.

Right there with your Inner Pilot Light, and itís yours for the taking. All you have to do is tap in.

How long has it been since youíve picked up a crayon? A magic marker? A paintbrush? A fountain pen?

When you do — and you ditch all self-judgment — cool stuff starts to happen. A spark gets lit. Stuff pours out. Your creative genius gets all fired up. Itís the coolest thing ever.

If you have kids, youíve seen this happen. They get into it — and next thing you know, there are papers flying, watercolors dancing around the page, words jumbling together, art being made.

But as we grow up, we shelve the finger paints, close up our storybooks, and allow our inner critic to bully our inner child into obscurity — and sadly, we stop tapping into that wild, passionate, madly joyful state of creative expression we knew as children.

Itís time to change all that. Iíd like to invite you to tap into your creative genius and invite your inner child to come out and play.

When you talk to people about tapping into their creative genius, about half the population gets lit up and the other half starts to glaze over. If you question the glazed half, they invariably spew out something like, ďWell, Iím just not creative.Ē

We are all creative geniuses. YOU are a creative genius. Yes, you shrinking there in the back, Iím talking to you! In the seven years Iíve spent teaching workshops, I watch it happen time and time again when you provide people with the materials, create a sacred, safe space, and invite them to channel their inner pyro. Itís like some inner fire gets ignited- and everything starts to shift.

It’s Your Turn To Unleash Your Creative Genius!

While Iíve been creating Owning Pink and putting two books out into the world, Iíve taken a three year hiatus from leading workshops, but Iím SO excited to announce that Iím leading my first art workshop in three years! SQUEEE!!!!!

I just happen to have written the encaustic bible (Encaustic Art: The Complete Guide To Creating Fine Art With Wax). My first book about painting with pigmented beeswax came out one month before Whatís Up Down There, so it sort of wound up the bastard stepchild in the shadow of its big sister.

But as part of owning all the facets of what makes me whole- and because I miss doing something Iím deeply passionate about, Iíve decided to lead an art workshop in the Bay area called Paint, Create & Conjure Your Dream Life — an Owning Pink encaustic workshop that will go WAY deeper than just teaching you mere technique.

In addition to guiding a roomful of women through the process of mastering a blowtorch with a long flame (oh yeah, baby — weíre talking HEAT!), weíll be diving deep into what it means to be the creatrix of your life — so you can manifest whatever it is youíre trying to create. Not only will you get to embrace your inner pyro by diving into a luminescent art medium that allows you to play with hot wax and fire, youíll also discover that the accessibility of this medium — which invites a natural playfulness and is a fave of inner children — is the perfect medium for allowing you to ignite your Inner Pilot Light, where you can create much more than just art.

When you juice up your creative genius, you discover that not only do you paint and write brilliantly — you also step it up a notch in your business, your relationships — even your fertility!

Read more deets about my upcoming workshop here. And sign up now — we only have 30 spots and we expect this workshop to fill up quickly.

How do you express yourself creatively? Do you notice a difference in your life when you unleash your creative genius?

Lissa, I love your articles, they're always thought-provoking or inspiring! I recently started writing fiction again after a three-year hiatus and my level of happiness is so much higher.

For me, creativity is not only one of the greatest joys in my life, it helps me have "balance",when I have had to deal with unpleasant things...it's my bandaid on myself!

My creativity is in music. It used to feel sooooooo good to let it out! But, because of "life" getting in the way, I can't play anymore, so I'm looking for another release. I used to play jazz, which is a very good release!
I guess, right now, its obsessing on the internet - and letting my opinions out.
