Shaving My Head Joyfully (Inspiring Video)

After being diagnosed with a rare form of cancer, Ashley Hackshaw, like many people with cancer, decided to shave her head. Rather than view it as a negative, she embraced the rite of passage and created a beautiful video with those close to her. Her mom even shaved her head the day before in solidarity. Learn more about her story here and follow along with her journey on her blog.

I shaved my own mom's head last year after her first round of chemo. This presentation is beautiful, as is Ashely. Mom is also one of the beautiful people, I am afraid I would not be so lovely bald! I offered to shave my own head and would have done so happily, but as I have long hair, my mom did not want that.

We are still fighting her cancer, she has had her leg amputated above knee and 1/3 of her right lung removed. Doctors are not offering hope.

We have learned that while scary, cancer is a natural process. It is your body's way of dealing with long term issues and excess. We have decided to follow a macrobiotic diet and leave the chemicals alone for this next phase. She feels good, hair is growing back. She has "chemo" hair right now with the curls. She is happy and enjoying her life and family. A graceful, loving lesson to us all.

My husband shaved my head as my hair started falling out at about the second week after the first chemo. He offered to shave his head in solidarity but I thought we'd just look odd together, two bald middle aged folks! Plus we kind of look similar to begin with - it would have been entirely too weird. I just had the "standard chemo" of six rounds. That was enough! I don't know how these folks do more intense chemo - their strength is to be admired. It would be so nice if we could find something better than chemo - it is such a blunt instrument.
