Letís Have Healthier Schools (video)

As kids go back to school, our attention turns back towards school lunches. This video shows us the results of the Healthy Schools Program, founded by President Clinton and several foundations. The cafeteria food has received a dramatic upgrade, going from canned and fast food to cases of fresh produce.

The kids learn healthy habits that they apply when they go home, and which the whole family then learns. Exercise is included in the program too, and there is even a program to help the faculty stay in shape and lose weight.

The program is reaching 9,000 schools with 5 million children in all 50 states. Any school in the country can enroll in the program and receive free technical assistance and support. Is your child’s school in the program?

I love this idea. They try to blame obesity all on the parents but I see what they feed the kids for lunches at school compared to what used to be served when I was in school. Big difference, we did not have choices everyone ate the same thing now you can choose between yogart and fruit or bean burrito and cinnimon roll. Hmmm, what do you think the kids will choose.
